I know Tua has one tough beard, but Holmes would stop the Tua that fought Lewis. Tua became too dependent on one punch at a time by that point in his career. Holmes would just hit him too often. Jab,right, uppercut, clinch, jab, right, Avoid Tua's hook, right hand counter, jab, right uppercut, clinch... Now if he faced a younger Tua, like the one that fought RahmanI, Ibeabuchi, or David Izon; I think Tua makes a good fight of it before losing a 9-6/10-5 type decision loss.
Holmes wins this one comfortably with maybe a few scary moments. Fact is Tua always struggled with jabs, and few if any heavyweights had a better jab than Holmes. I could see Tua winning about 2-3 rounds here at most.
Holmes would easily outbox Tua. Tua never had much of an answer for a good left jab and Holmes may have had the best one in heavyweight history. Larry would have outboxed him from the outside all night and Tua would be unable to close the distance. Holmes UD (13-2)
The way i see it, tua from the ruiz fight would be able to drop larry holmes, but holmes would be able to get up and beat tua via Split decision.
I'm not even sure he could drop Holmes. Larry, at his best, never was vulnerable to the left hook. It was the right hand that could sometimes catch him. I think Holmes would stick the jab out and move all night. By 1980, he was better at pacing himself (which was what hurt him in the second Shavers fight) and I think he'd box rather cautiously, as he did in the first Shavers fight or against Leroy Jones. My bet would be Holmes by an extremely wide decision. Tua's underrated defense and cast-iron chin guarantee him going the distance.
I just think that Holmes would win this , not because of the styles (which would come into it) , but because of what Holmes is - one of the best of all-time. This cant be deniied. With Tua's power , you could see Holmes going down throughout the fight , but Holmes boxing to a decision is the inevitable outcome imo . Holmes would probably shake Tua up along the way , dont think he would stop him though
