Seems pretty clear to me. Holmes might be shaken at some point, maybe even dropped. But, he should be able to outbox Tua. Holmes wins 10 rounds to 5, maybe even 11 to 4 or 12 to 3. Although I don't see Holmes hurting Tua. If anybody gets hurt, it's Holmes.
Tua's face puffs and swells on the way to a Holmes victory by wide UD. If the same Tua came and fought Larry instead of Butterbean back in 2002, we'd be talking an entirely different outcome.
Lewis-Tua redoux. Even the 225-range Tua was capable of getting roundly outboxed for long periods of time. Larry befuddles Tua with his jab and his movement. Tua tries hard but it still doesn't help him out. I don't think Larry gets dropped either, and would win all but a couple rounds or so. Tua '96 vs Holmes '02, yeah, bit unfair on the old codger by that point Holmes would make Tua look silly with his jab for the first 4 rounds or so, then be out of puff and get hammered. Biggest problem the comeback-era Holmes had was his stamina, it just wasn't the same and no wonder.
good thing nobody said "holmes by KO" :rofl because there is no chance in hell that tua will go down with that iron chin. :yep
A fighter like Tua would bring out the absolute best in Holmes: a telegraphing, pressuring tough guy with a wealth of defensive deficiencies and physical handicaps. In theory, with Tua's honey punch being the left hook, Larry could drive circles around him like he did Shavers only with less risk. That Holmes jab would practically marry Tua's face during 15 rounds and win him 12 or more rounds.
Plus Holmes was an intelligent fighter, he wouldn't go wading in looking for a knockout knowing that was Tua's only chance of winning, and that Tua typically carried his power through the distance. Yup, Larry would play it smart and hand out a masterclass.
