Thanks for posting those clips. I'm happy to see him win. I was almost praying that he'd win. Prayers answered. I'm glad that his hands are busy again. Rather than plodding forward looking to end things with one left hook, he's working the body and using a jab. You can't go wrong with the basics. But he hasn't had a knockout since 2009. As much as I hate to admit it, his power is on the decline.
Praying probably wasn't necessary against King. :yep Against Barrett in the rematch, or anybody better than that...you might need to kneel down again... Ordinarily, I'd say that incorporating a solid jab and attention to body punching wouldn't be a bad thing for anybody...but he seems to have forgotten to bread his butter. It's like he no longer feels right throwing the hook, and isn't putting the same emphasis on it when he does. He might have completely abandoned that punch in his training camp in favor of these other tactics, which aren't his strong suit. I have mixed feelings on his fine-tuning, therefore... Damn. Was the Cameron KO really almost two years ago? It feels like just yesterday.
His hand speed seemed improved, and his jab is stronger than in the past, less of that silly back handed flick he used to do, but it was as if his legs couldn't match his upperbody. His big hooks definitely came from the legs, and he just seemed sluggish last night. I kept shouting uppercut at the tv, king's guard was a freaking funnel for a good leg driven lead uppercut. He was open to the overhand right a fair bit also, but I didn't see many of those. All in all, it was a solid performance for an older guy against a tough defensive tank of a man. But I'm still a little disappointed. I know he has more in him than this, but he lacks the explosive personality to really fight with someone, maybe if they find a heavyweight mayorga to trash talk his mum he'll start going ballistic in the ring. He had a big grin after the ninth when they were trading shots, thats the tua that made me a fan.
****, sorry I missed your post, I was at the fight. And no, unfortunately they only show it briefly after the main event as far as I've been told.
Awful stoppage for Fitzgerald. He was winning the fight fairly comfortably though, Belgecham really didn't look as motivated as he did for the Lee and Barker fights and just stayed shelled up. But the stoppage, well, Fitzgerald backed him up by throwing shots while walking(I mean actually walking, not in fighting stance), right hand with a right step, left hand with left step, which led to the referee jumping in. As a result, Affif made his most effort-filled attack of the night-on the ref. Twice he jumped for him, Judah-style. When the result was being announced the ref had security around him and everything to protect him.
Ah, sorry to hear (both that it wasn't entertaining, and that Belg lost..and lost his cool). He'll probably be suspended then?
I just realized there's an extra thirteenth video with the announcement of the scores, in case anybody cares to watch Tua's reaction: [yt]qN-9PC5bqns[/yt] That body language says "Yeah, I got the job done...but don't feel very high on how it went down..."
Meh, wasn't too bad. Despite the mismatch, I'm glad I got to see a fighter of Rigondeaux's capabilities live in person Aye, fortress Europe has been penetrated, and the fearsome EBA(the 4th best European title you can win) must take action. In all seriousness, I dont know if Affif will fight again anyways, he's clearly either: A) Lost the little ability he had. B) Lost all hunger and motivation he had. C) All of the above. He was dominated pretty handily by a fighter who isnt all that good from what I've seen. To go from nearly beating Barker to this must be demoralizing, and an indicator that he isn't what he was, because bogus stoppage or not he wasn't winning that fight.
The bolded part stands out to me. In some previous fights, David neglected in-fighting and relied only on his left hook. But today, he neglected the left hook in favor of fighting. Hopefully he can get the balance right in the future.
"Very, very satisfied"? :blood That does suck that his supposed coach is tied up with a rival contender halfway around the world. In any event, good read. Thanks.
Wait a minute. Wait a damn minute. What is this BS about K2 quoting purses to Kushner of "$5 million for the champion, and Tua getting just over a quarter million (275k)"?? Last night, Vitali Klitschko earned $15 million and Odlanier Solis earned $1.8 million!!! No ****ing way does Tua get offered only 15% of what Solis makes. That's absurd. Merit aside, on sheer name value you'd have to think Tua would bring in enough paying casual fans to demand as much as Solis or more - let alone fifteen ****ing percent of what the slob got. atsch Where is that extra ten million coming from for VK, too?
