No, he was 10-1 while Tua was 26-0. Look at BoxRec. 20-1 record that was announced by ring announcer before the fight, was a fake record. It was made up by Maskaev's team to get him big fights quickly. There weren't any BoxRec's back then so people couldn't chek his real record.
Maybe so, but there are so many great performances by the middle guys, albeit some one-off Like Ray Mercer ( from the Lewis and Morrison fights) Tua (from Ike) and even George Foreman (Holy). The top guys from now would have their hands full on those nights
Agreed although at this point this eras starting to look weaker and weaker as the fights go by, my opinion of this era being underrated had gone 180 in the span of 10 months. Bowe at his absolute peak like in the Donald and the first Holyfield fight beats down Joshua, Usyk, Parker, Whyte, Wilder and his inside game could cause Fury serious problems, same with Holyfield at his peak and a focused Lennox Lewis just folds all these guys like some newly ironed Khakis
Based on Usyk vs Chisora, I just can't see that. If Usyk comes out and decisively beats AJ then I'd probably reconsider.
Tua is overrated. While he'd certainly destroy Chisora, styles make fights. Chisora is a pure pressure fighter that moves forward relentlessly with head movement like a crappy bootleg 240 pound version of Joe Frazier. Tua isn't that kind of fighter and would get his head boxed off by Usyk, he wouldn't be able to do anything when Usyk sticks and moves and his slickness would also give Tua nightmares. Remember Tua vs Byrd ? Yeah thats this Although i wouldn't be suprised if Tua caught him and put him in a coma. That could happen which is why I'd favor Usyk 80 percent of the time, not 100.
Yes I remember Tua vs Byrd. In 2001 Tua was already past his best IMO. If we're talking prime for prime then 96-98 Tua is the best. 13 HW fights in those 3 years. Including KO victories over John Ruiz and Hasim Rahman. And a record breaking fight against Ike Ibeabuchi for most punches at heavyweight. And our data on Usyk at heavyweight is a forgettable decision against Chisora. Just don't see it. But as I said if he convincingly beats AJ then yes he should easily handle Tua.
