Who takes it? I'm referring to the pre-Ibeabuchi version of Tua who actually threw punches.

Tyson beat Holmes in their fight because of the right hand. Everytime Larry was floored, it was Tyson's right hand that did it. He was trained on how to fight Larry when he was a young teenager by Cus D'Amato.

Tua relied on his left hook, but before his first loss, he threw deadly combinations. He worked the body. He threw uppercuts. His hands were busier.
I think Holmes would have an easy time outpointing Tua anytime after 1997, but prime Tua would have given him a much better fight. I think Tua would knock him out eventually, but may struggle a bit more than Tyson did because Tua's finishing punch was the left hook, but Larry was more vulnerable to right hands (something exploited by Tyson, Renaldo Snipes and Earnie Shavers).

    Thoughts?

  2. no ****ing way this version of holmes would beat david tua. holmes was finished mentally in 1988. he came back better in 1992. it would not be the massacre type tyson , but tua would be the aggressor and i think that he would drop holmes in some point. tua by decision. prime vs prime holmes would play with tua

Tua was slow on his feet and did'nt close the ring off like Mike, Holmes by decision.

Looks like Holmes on points...Holmes could not stop David...David has a punchers chance but he was more of a left hooker and Holmes had high vulnerability to the right hand...Larry handled Cooney who had a better hook than Tua IMO but Tua was far more durable and dangerous late in the fight and it was late where Larry slowed down and could get rocked....Holmes would be able to avoid the hook its the right hand punchers with stamina like Louis,Marciano,Dempsey,Baer,Lewis,Tyson that would ring Larry's bell test his mettle...I don't think Larry could survive a upper echelon Right hand puncher with stamina like Louis,Marciano, and may not make it out of the early rounds against Lewis, Tyson...Baer and Schmeling have a good chance of getting outpointed but they had pin-point power in the right, Baers was slower but deadly and Jersey Joe Wallcott would beat Holmes by UD but Larry would touch the canvas 1-2 times

Larry beat a lot of one punch no follow-up guys and got rocked by guys like Weaver who was 19-8 and dropped by Snipes who had power but had no devastating KO's...Shavers could hit but was known for his losses after he rocked his opponent and was stopped and beaten just about every time he stepped up...Bone-crusher was 14-01 and was doing well but got scared at the sight of his own blood and was inexperienced same goes for a lot of Larrys opponents who had 20 -fights or more less fights than Larry...Larry is very good but so overated

If Tua was at his very best,he could score a very close decision over the ring rusty Holmes of 1988.
