This is what people always say about these old farts who were young hard punchers. The only one ever to actually DO it was Foreman. There are still people out there who think that if Tyson got back into shape he'd win it all. Tua wasn't much when he was in his prime, and now he's not much who doesn't want to be much. He's done. Forget him. He'll never contend again. Lets move on.
A bad name for boxing.....where were you born? Look up the definition of "bad name" and it says BOXING! Boxing people invented the term bad name.
Tua not much in his prime. Three losses, one controversially, the other two against LL and Byrd, two champs. Defeated 4 future champs. Not too bad a resume. Quit hating on him. Tua is in great shape, at about 245 now. Look for him to come in at 235 against Montana. Tua's problem is inactivity in the ring.
Oh yes. For example, the Holyfield-Oquendo PPV lost so much cash that allegedy Holyfield's cheque bounced the first time, I don't think Oquendo ever got paid in full, and everyone else just got nothing. Why risk it? Because people are suckers for a big name, I guess. Tua's comeback has been famously sluggish, but I was most disappointed in his recent comments over at Fightnews. ------------------------------------------------------ "It'll be pleasing to get another title shot and winning it, which would seal off my career, and I still have three, four years to do it." ------------------------------------------------------ I'm glad he wants the title shot but, damn, he sure is happy taking the very long and comfortable way to it. He's already 34...
I remember in England when you could see big names fight in the middle of the week without having to pay for them - the good old days.
At least you admit he has a problem diehard, but that one problem is huge. I suspect that that problem is naturally creating other problems in a supposed comeback, like power of punch, timing and manouverability, not mention punchrate. The past is past, and seems to be well past unfortunately!
You are absolutely correct Shamrock. His lack of ring activity does affect everything else. Frankly, I don't understand his gameplan. He should go balls to the wall for two years, see what he can accomplish, and then get out. Why put himself thru continuous diets, tuff training regimens, meager paychecks, and loss of face. Do you think he's biding his time until he's sure he doesn't pay Barry and Peewww any big purses. Famous chinese saying: "when you start avoiding other people, you end up avoiding yourself." Any word on Shane Cameron?
I think people will watch the big guys. They (Mesi, Tua, Greenberg, J. Williams) have a combined record of something like 147-8 with 120 knockouts
