I would feel sorry for Tua in that one, he would suffer a career ending beating by the hand of the Rock. Great fight that would switch from competative in the first few rounds to a onesided beating with Tua going the distance due to his chin but he would be never the same after this one. Marciano UD Tua 11 rounds to 4.
wow OVERRATED, if you truly believe this would anything but extremely competitive you must be confused. Tua past his prime went the distance with massive puncher in lennox, Tua had great stamina in his prime so he wouldnt get tired and he had a fantastic defence, with over 20pounds of strength advantage on rocky Marciano and in my opinion equal power and chin this would be an extremely EXTREMELY close fight, only way this would be lopsided was if Tua was out of his prime but as I said in his prime like when he fought Ibeabuchi he would definatelly keep it competitive easily for 12rounds or more
by the way my vote goes with Tua by decision or late stoppage due to cuts and seriously swelled up face of Marciano
i don't really know how a nearly man like tua can be compared to an ATG . he may have gone the distance with lewis but he was out-classed and toyed with. its hard to know just how good marciano was ,as with all old school fighters its word of mouth passed down the generations but i'd have to say marciano would have beaten someone like tua.
I think perceptions get a little skewed sometimes. I don't see David Tua beating Rocky Marciano. Marciano had subtle skills which enabled him to land bombs on master boxers like Charles and Walcott. If Tua could take those shots, so be it, he'd get a beating. Marciano by late stoppage.
tua would make an ATG like the rock look really average, cos he would blow him outta there within 3 rounds. tua is a more skilled, bigger, faster and more defensively cuter version of marciano, not to mention having a better chin. if you watch tua fight, you will notice it is difficult to land clean. ike had alot of trouble landing on him becos of the way he utilizes his shoulders and elbows with his slight headmovement. marciano never did any of these things, or rarely.
It sure as hell woulda been a fight I'd love to'ave seen, BNB. This excellent ESB video about Marciano's defense, put together by poster Chris Pontius, may address some of the points you bring up: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52505
agreed on the most part that tua is a bigger version of marciano but like alot of things is it better than the original? in this case I have it 51-49 in favour of David Tua and by no means a blow-out, but I believe Rocky has never faced anything even remotely close to the kind of power Tua brings and for once Rocky will have to go backwards or do something cause he will get stopped
i have seen this video before, thanks for reposting it tho. he does have the moves but he isnt consistent with them. he might do it once but forget to do them again. tua for example and other fighters who are good defensive fighters used their moves more consistently. i know it really hurts but tua was a better skilled fighter than marciano. you can go as far as to sayhe was more talented than marciano. he was faster and stronger and had a betta chin etc. marciano had the workrate than no heavyweight can match tho.
