I remember when I first saw Tua in a phone-booth sized gym above a garage in Auckland, NZ, I thought: This guy's a beast, but no idea the heights he'd reach.

I was sure he was a converted southpaw. If Rocky had a real edge it was that he was a big puncher with both hands.

Yeah, or you could just watch the wealth of footage that exists of him.

Although Marciano is the better fighter both on p4p basis as well as legacy wise, I'd have to pick Tua to prevail in this one. Has nothing to do with how many hall of famers Rocky beat.. Tua had the size and power to floor and hurt Rocky, but I really don't see Marciano doing the same in reciprocity. People can talk all they want about Tua failing when he stepped up, but Marciano simply did not have the right tools to beat him..

until now i thought the rock had no defensive moves, well i just found out he did have some moves. i watched his fight with roland la starza. and he uses the exact same moves as tua.
to see a close up of rocky doing the moves
at 7.57 of the video. i was shocked. i didnt know rocky could do anything so smoothly.

I'd favour Tua. This ain't pick based on all-time standing but on how i see the real fight planninf out from a size, strength and stylistic viewpoint.

Ref intervenes to save Marciano from more punishment cicra round 7.

    Which Tua shows up?

If it is the Tua of the Ibeabuchi fight then expect an all time classic.

If it is the Tua of the Byrd fight then expect a one sided masacre.

I think Marciano was more subtle and awkward than you alow for.

When I read the testimonies of Marciano opponents like Walcott, Charles and Moore, given on different dates, they all say the same things.

They say that he was hard to hit cleanly, and that his punches were almost imposible to time coming in. They talk about him feinting with both hands and both feet while he was coming forward.

At first these comments seem confusing but when you watch the films looking for these tactics you suddenly see them.

I can't forget Tua deciding he just wanted to survive against Lewis,Marciano would never have settled for that,he takes Tua by virtue of bigger bollocks.

Come on gentleman, how much of this size difference is due to synthetic testosterone (amabolic steroids)? It is that unreasonable to presume, given the fact that they were synthesised in 1959,that the difference in size between the athletes of this era and those that came later is in a small way attributable to this effect. Also athletes now have access to human growth hormone and insulin nowadays. The performance enhancers don't always necessarily make them better fighters, but they do allow them to put on more mass.
