The real question is if whether Tua could tolerate the body stench that Galento brought into the fight or would he be rendered helpless by spasmodic retching. Some opponents described it as similar to rotten tuna. BTW Galento didn't bathe prior to fights because he wanted to have that negative effect on the opponent.
LOL. I guess deodorants wasn't in common use back in those days.Reminds of something I read in a 'Tyson vs the Heavyweight greats' article (I think it was in a Boxing 88 magazine) where in the Tyson vs Dempsey matchup, it said that Tyson would throw away his razor to look meaner and Dempsey would turn off the water to smell meaner. I guess it was just normal practice back then but the thought of being smothered by Galento up close just doesn't bear thinking about.
Actually I'm for real going with Galento. Galento wasn't slick or tried to outbox anyone, he was up in your craw every second he could be. I never really saw Tua do too good with any elite heavyweights that went toe to toe with him. Matter of fact, he couldn't even beat a 16 fight novice with no wins over any rated fighters or notable fighters. Don' get me wrong, Tua was decent. I just think Galento's style is wrong for Tua.
Galento's style is perfect for Tua, for the reasons you described. Ike would have destroyed Galento too.
Another factor would be the ref, would he be the sort to allow Galento to use methods not mentioned within the rule book, or not. Me thinketh not a backward step would be taken by these most 'gentle' men.
I always thought they were evenly matched. Tua was better schooled...but he didn't really apply his so called skill set much at all and it wouldn't matter here. Both were pretty dirty but I think Galento has the edge there.
For whatever reason Tua's own dirty antics got glossed over, he leveled Rahman after the bell deliberately and even attempted to do the same thing in the rematch but got caught with a counter, Byrd was able to avoid a deliberate left hook after the bell by a frustrated Tua. He also wasn't above the occasional low blow.
Tua is quicker ,has a better chin ,better stamina, and hit harder plus, he had a good right hand to complement his left hook and he didn't cut! Galento gets moidered here!
The only fighter I can think of that went toe to toe with Tua was Ike and Ike was a 16 fight green fighter with absolutely no real experience compared to Tua. Tua was notable for catching boxer types with that left hook. Tua can't bully Galento either.
Tua wasn't quicker (both about the same but speed is irrelevant with their styles), chin is about the same (Tua never fought anyone nearly as good a puncher as Louis so its hard to gauge), both possessed a wicked left hook and power doesn't come into it because they can both take each others punch.Tua's right wasn't that good, a little less than average. Tua has tougher skin I'll give him that. Tua just wasn't very good. A pretty basic fighter. Always failed at the world stage (unless you count Ruiz). Galento showed very good counter punching ability against Joe Louis and toughness against Baer (although he quit). Not a blowout but a decisive win for Galento. Tua would probably have been dumbfounded and unable to cope against any dirty stuff.
