You don't think he could have beaten "who's nexxx" Peter? That would have been his chance or even Maskaev.
Tua has been working on getting around to possibly thinking about getting in shape to attempt to maybe train for a potential comeback for years now.
I do not see what Tua has ever done to deserve such recognition in the first place. Like Peter, people jumped the gun with him. An interesting fighter, but not much more.
If Tua gets in shape he still has a punchers chance, he has a good chin and late power,,,he is also very slow but can quick fire sporaticly
He "peaked" early and had a short prime. Too bad Tua never become the "Man", he was close at times. The Lennox / Tua fight totally changed my perception of him and his potential.
Hard to say but with this left hook power I am surprised he has not had the motivation to fight as much as guys like say Toney or Rahman. Can you imagine if Tua had that motivation and fought as much as those guys and the level those guys do and did? The fight footage would be great. I do love Tua's power.
With that chin and that power, he should've held a title. He's certainly had some crap with managers and promoters, but that he hasn't done so (or even had more than one title challenge) is in the main down to his own failings.
Tua coulda had class....coulda been somebody...instead of a bum. Seriously, he was awesome in his first 2-3 years as a pro....David "the terminator" Tua. Then he became fat "Tuaman" and things went downhill from there.
I agree with both of you about Tua. It is his fault and he gained weight. Just no motivation. But with that power he had an extra edge guys like Toney or Rahman did not, and those guys fight everyone. So you have to give them credit. Tua just did not put in the maximum effort. But I think had he put in that effort he could have been effective enough. Not as great as Tyson because he did not have both weapons of a two fisted assault, but that left hook when it hit was a great punch. I liked Tua's style.. I thought he could have done well. But he hurt himself by not committing himself. Too bad.
also Co-signed. Tua gets overrated so goddamn much. The guy was a short brawler and sure as hell could be outboxed. Great fight with Ibeabuchi, but come one, two power punchers that had styles that were made for each other. He would lose to quite a few guys right now. Power isnt everything.
