    Cautionary tale.

**** "managers". Boxers should always handle their own affairs or have someone who's part of their inner circle help them out. As maligned as Jin Mosley is, she did a great job with Shane while they were together.

    Keep it in the family.

Tua owes $4.2 million in legal fees after taking his manager, Kevin Barry, to court for 8 years, and #2.2 in taxes. His purses are frozen now. But he's driving around in a Mercedes, and is renting a house. He trains at his own gym. The problem is that he has debts, and needs to repay them before he can start socking away some money, and unfreeze his assets.

Maybe instead of going to court for 8 years you just cut your losses and move on. He's an idiot.

Its Ironic that every person who goes from rich to average or boke always say things like "I don't miss it, my family is all i need etc"

Why can't people just admit they blew it and now life sucks

    easier said than done

i think when you are wrong or have been dicked over you will fight for what you feel is right....especially when somebody has messed with your financial security

i saw a guy who was given the chance to be freed from prison after dna evidence had cleared him ...the guy wouldnt leave until he was fully exonerated in a court of law and declared innocent

If a guy steal 1 mill from you but it is gonna cost your 4 fold to get it back, why bother? I mean. How much could Barry have taken?

i totally hear you.....but were playing armchair qb here....i doubt youve ever had 1 mil of hard earned money stolen.....it probably has become personal to tua...and he probably felt like he was gonna make that 4 mil back in the ring....thats the thing about these fighters...they always think theyll be making more...their only 1 punch away from being back on top...not always the most realistic guys

True, Bobby. But not only that, Tua trusted Kevin Barry like an older brother. Tua had been with him since right after Tua won bronze in the Olympics. Their families were close. Tua is also Samoan, and trust is very important. Plus, he didn't think that the court case would take longer than a murder trial! He didn't fight for 2.5 years afterwards. Just not in a right head space.

Barry and his "financial" manager, Martin Peewww, bought beach property worth 12-14 million in NZ, and Barry convinced Tua to sign the contract when he was vulnerable, a month or two out from the LL fight. He told Tua that Peewww was a financial whiz, and the contract would set him and his family up for life. Tua believed Barry. Peewww has been in a number of shady deals in the past, unbeknownst to Tua.

BTW, the article said Tua made 12 million for the LL fight. Maybe in his career, but only 3.5 for the LL fight.
