  1. the most hideous part was Haye trying to talk back to that muppet with that mask, the whole thing was hideous

Really juvenile stuff. Kinda stuff when Haye was ripping into the Klitschkos because few dare to do that, but Valuev isn't exactly heavily armed in the witticisms and threats department.

I dont reckon Sky were behind it. If so it wouldnt have been so **** and Craig Slater wouldnt have taken the **** saying it was cheesy in his report of it. Smacks of thing Booth thought would be really funny. Punching the cardboard would have sufficed.

Just watched Valuev v Barrett, haven't seen it before. Barrett takes a bit of a beating and looks pretty small compared to the big man.

Valuev seems to have changed a great deal. He's far more one paced these days, in this video he uses his size and strength and is not afraid to let the punches go.

Now you would never see him throw any punch unless its behind his jab. Has its positives and negatives I suppose, might not be a good thing against Haye.

I agree, he seems twice as mobile and active in that fight than I have seen him lately. He looks like an absolute beast in that fight compared to the plodder of late. Maybe Valuev has just aged overnight.

To be fair to him though, Holyfield didn't come to fight at all and Ruiz is a spoiler as well, as we all know.

Haye needs to get inside his jab though.

I'm not sure Haye will try to get inside it in the traditional sense, I think he'll rely on timing and rhythm. He'll study Valuev for a round or two and get a sense of how he moves, the angle and speed of the jab and get a sense for when he throws it. I think he'll try to leap in with right hands between Valuev's jabs, as Valuev's jab is not constant like a Klitschko. Haye will circle the ring and wait for his opportunities, drawing Valuev forward and then pouncing.

I doubt we'll see any head or upper body movement from Haye to slip it and then come inside, its generally not his modus operandi.

So yeah, I think it will pretty much be the Holyfield strategy from the outside, only he'll try to put some serious hurt on Valuev rather than point score, and he won't want to tie up on the inside like Holy did, he'll want to get on his bike again.

    Agreed.

Can't see Haye fighting from inside Valuev's reach. He's not going to develop Tyson (the real one) type reflexes and head movement and also would get manhandled in the clinches. He struggled inside with Barratt I thought.

Going to circle the ring throwing one or two looping shots at a time, looking to counter the slow jabs like Chagaev did when beating Valuev. If he can land the flashy right hands then he can win on points and make it like an Olympic amateur fight which he can win unless he hurts his hands hitting that massive head.

The interesting thing is I don't see any way Haye can be entirely comfortable in this fight bar scoring an early KO.

If he leaps in with his trademark rights he is going to struggle to avoid being tied up in energy sapping clinches.

If he counterpunches Valuev's jabs, no matter how quick he is, he will be hit with jabs at the same time due to the reach of Valuev, Valuev will follow through and catch him at times. It will be interesting to see if they have any effect. If they don't he could be okay for a good deal of the fight, as long as he avoids the long right hand/uppercut which shouldn't be difficult. If the jabs have a noticeable effect early he's ****ed.

If he utilizes a lot of movement it will tire him out quite a lot, he's not entirely used to running around the ring because his opponents have always had a healthy respect for his power.

If the fight goes late into the fight, he then has to deal with the fact his speed and power is fading, and there is a 320lb bloke in the other corner...

Bar an early KO this is a horrible nights work. It all comes down to how effective Haye's power is against this man IMO. If he can hurt Valuev he has a great chance, if he can't I fear he'll lose.

The more I think about it the more trouble I have visualising how Haye wins this fight.

Valuev has all the advantages both physically with size, experience of being a HW since he started boxing aged 5 and the judges in Germany factor.

Disciple, avoiding uppercuts, a decent strategy, stamina and hitting like a mule might change that.
