Sorry, but he just can't. Review the Glen Johnson fight where pressurised, Dawson went into a shell and struggled to mount any kind of offense and was extremely lucky (read, gifted) to win that fight. Calzaghe is faster and sharper than Glen Johnson and while he doesn't hit with the same sting, he hits with enough sting to put a fighter into the tenative. It would realistically be Dawson vs Johnson all over again, only with Calzaghe landing a lot more punches and being a lot more in Dawson's face. The only guy in boxing currently that has a chance against Calzaghe is Hopkins and he's never going to fight Hopkins again. I think if they did fight again, both of these guys could find ways to victory, I'd still slightly favour Joe if he was up for it, mostly because as he said tonight "It's hard to figure out my style because I have a lot of styles" and I think he'd find a way. In saying all of this - I'd like to see Joe legitimise himself in the record books at 175 by taking Dawson on in Wales. There won't be much, if any money in the fight but it would at least finish his career defeating an undefeated champion who was much younger than him.... (even though he's done that three times previously)
Joe is a head hunter? Guess you didn't watch the fight tonight where about the only shots he threw with any real conviction at Jones Jr were to the body, while the shots to the face were just to irritate and annoy. He went to the body all night long to Jones Jr.
