I see no problem fighting Johnson again if he (being Dawson) loses a rematch. If he wins though then yeah, I certainly see your point.

So Dawson fighting the only man who ever came close to beating him is a disgrace?

    Seriously?

I don't see a problem with honoring contractual agreements .... but when HBO starts choosing which opponents you should fight - that falls into the category of manager. And I seriously doubt managerial rights were included in the contract.

In any case ... its a good move for Dawson to silence any echos from the past.

Give him credit 4 what? HBO had to basically make dawson to take the fight, he didnt want to take this fight. An the only reason he is takin this fight is cuz nobody wanted to buy the rights to the fight to watch him sit on his throne fight sum nobodies like others have in his division. THE REAL COODOES BO TO HBO FOR PUTTIN THEIR FOOT DOWN AND SAYIN "WE DONT WANT THE GARBAGE":hi:

I'm sure if Dibella had a serious problem with Johnson as an opponent the fight wouldn't be going down. Considering how the only other option was Tavoris Cloud, I'd say both parties found a common ground on Glenn Johnson.

HBO certainly had a lot of interest in Dawson vs Johnson. I mean they spent all of Tarver-Dawson II talking about how badly they wanted to have Dawson vs Johnson in there.

Cloud's camp has declined fighting on HBO, who wanted to put him as a co-feature on it to build up a Cloud-Dawson fight. Glen Johnson was the only logical choice left for this bout, but they'd really be reaching for an opponent after Johnson-Dawson II since Cloud declined.

As for Cloud, because he's sat on his mandatory status, he'll get a considerably easier fight for the vacant title against Clinton Woods. Pretty convenient.

10 years ago such a statement would never have been made. Today, it's the truth.

Having said that, good on Dawson for taking the rematch. Not too long ago half of ESB was calling for it.

For one it seems like Johnson chose him. On top of that there are people running around saying that Dawson lost to Johnson in a close fight, why not have a rematch?

    Who would you have preferred?

    Definitely.

I'm sure like most fans, i thought Dawson would never give Johnson a rematch. Even in his post fight interview, when asked if he would like to fight Johnson again, he said "no".

    Good post :good
Dawson does seem to be a decent guy,he's always gracious about other fighters and giving Johnson another crack of the whip is a nice gesture.I think Johnson just nicked it first time around, and i'm sure Dawson wants to set the record straight, but its still a big risk.

I'm also happy for Johnson because he's getting another good pay day. If he loses, he won't probably get another one. I'm hoping he wins though.
