From the site that takes a scientific interest in sweet and sour chicken: ___________ Dawson/Diaconu Purse Bid Results Are In Diaconu’s promoters, InterBox, topped the bidding, at $1.8 million. So, there is a purse to parse, but a site still needs to be hashed out, according to Dawson’s manager, Mike Criscio. Team Dawson would travel to Canada, but not Diaconu’s native land, Romania. ... If InterBox is set on Romania, Criscio (Dawson's manager) says, Dawson might just fight Tarver, the IBF champion, and dispense with the mandatory. Stay tuned… _____ Thanks to Maxime for posting this info in a different thread. I thought it warranted its own space.
Hm, he's willing to go to Canada but not Romania? In the end, what's the difference? Either way, I hope the fight comes off, could be a good one. I get the feeling Diaconu could stop him.
I hope Dawson will relent and make the fight in Romania. It's understanable why his team would be concerned, but truthfully, he should dominate Diaconu. But in front of rabid fans in the home country, you can see where Diaconu might ride the wave to a big win. However, it works out, I'm eager to see this situation resolved.
Truthfully, he should have dominated Glen Johnson, too. Now given, Glen is a tough ****er, and I absolutely love the guy, but still. Diaconu doesn't strike me as anything special in terms of skills, but he does look relentless and like he can punch like a mule.
shows a lack of confidence from Dawson's team , if he was to knock out Diaconu or win 8+ rounds clear then there would be no problem cause there'd be no opportunity to rob him(not saying he definitely would be robbed if it was close either) . Americans are afraid to travel , they'll criticise other fighters for not fighting in America(even if they had fought everywhere else) but once the shoe is on the other foot..........
I agree that too many Americans are afraid to travel. If the location of the bout kills it and Dawson drops the belt for someone other than Tarver or Johnson (or Jones, I guess), then we'll all be very disappointed.
I think Canada has shown that fighters get a pretty fair shake here. People will point out the Bailey fight but I had Ngoudjo winning that one and the fact that he got an SD instead of a UD shows that the judges are quite fair. When Ngoudjo fought just as close against Malignaggi in his home court, the judges gave Malignaggi 9 rounds to 3, 8 rounds to 4, and 7 to 5. anyways interbox will make more money making the fight in Canada than in Romania
Henry travelled to Romania and he was very well treated. It's just Dawson acting like a prima donna as usual.
