Yep. There is no excuse not to fight in Canada. That said, given the money they invested, I wouldn't blame Interbox/Gankor for insisting that the bout stay in Romania. If that's the case and a better opportunity doesn't arise, Dawson needs to head out and beat the hometown boy on his own turf.
Many champions insist on fighting at home. It's nothing unusual, particularly if those fighters hail from the country where there's the most money. However, in this instance, the money is in Romania. I hope Dawson takes the fight and beats the **** out of Diaconu, although nothing will surprise me.
I'd like to see Dawson take care of business no matter what the locale. He already fought Glen Johnson, he should take care of at least one young, live opponent before he gets back on the Seniors tour. It's one thing for a guy on the verge of retiring to do that, but for a young champ, it's important to establish dominance over your peers, too. The Diaconu thing's been dragging on for long enough- we need to see a winner to settle it.
Dawson will win this easy. Diaconu does not hit as hard as Glen Johnson and Chad will stop Diaconu late or win wide decision. Then he will outclass Tarver as he is past his prime, Ok he beat Woods but Woods did not fight an aggressive fight and his punch output was too low, he needed to pressure Tarver and failed miserably.
Chad is the champ why should he travel all the way to Romania to make a fight? He's being generous by saying he'll fight in Canada.
He's being more than generous. If he actually travels to Romania, it would be something almost unheard of in boxing. I really hope the fight finally comes off and doesn't get delayed by the other mismatch, Dawson-Tarver.
Diaconu is not popular enough in Canada for that kinda of revenue to be generated. The only place this fight will happen is in Romania where he is very popular.
Because of the distance of travel , or because you'd be afraid of getting robbed/badly treated ? Or is it another issue ?
Presumably Dawson's never been to Romania before. Diaconu grew up there. Diaconu's going to have the advantage (a) adjusting to the time difference, (b) eating Romanian food, (c) drinking Romanian water, (d) getting good access to Romanian training facilities (I can't imagine there are enough good boxing facilities there for both fighters without importing equipment) and (e) communicating for needs to the Romanians. Being someone who travels quite a bit, you can't underestimate the toll it takes on your body when you change time zones, eat unfamiliar foods, and drink water that contains bacteria that your body isn't used to. Sure, you can take precautions, but speaking for myself, I ALWAYS have some physical problems when travelling outside of the USA, Canada, Japan or Western Europe, usually of the intestinal variety, even when trying to only drink bottled water, etc. The physical toll that the travel might take on Dawson is reason enough for him not to want to fight out in Romania.
