Why would he care where the fight will be bigger? He'll be getting paid a lot more money to go to Bucharest than his own promoter was prepared to put up. If the fight would be so big in Canada or the US, then they should have put up the money to stage it there.
Dawson beat Adamek because Adamek fought him! He didn't duck his mandatory! Dawson got a shot at the Champ and won! On the back of that, he got Johnson. Why didn't Dawson want to give his mandatory, Diaconu, a shot at him? :huh That's right...he's a prima donna. He doesn't have to do things by the rules like everyone else. He's a huge p4p star already, who deserves special treatment...!
He'll get his shot in time.. it's looking like the fight will come off. In the meanwhile, we shouldn't call anyone a ducker, or a chicken... because this fight SHOULD be HBO-material, but somehow it is not. I'm getting ready to see Diaconus stamina fail him, and then Dawson will bank in on my bet :good
Dawson has been ducking Diaconu - there's no two ways about that. It's a fact. Dawson really has no excuse not to fight Diaconu. None. Diaconu is his mandatory and Interim Champ. Dawson has to fight him if he wants to keep the belt. Diaconu will offer Dawson by far the greatest career pay-day. Fighting in Romania is fair. Diaconu cannot win on points anyway, so home advantage will not count much. Really, there is no reason why Dawson shouldn't fight Diaconu, in Romania or anywhere else. Dawson needs to step up the plate and act like a man for once. I don't care if Diaconu gets KTFO in 2, as long as he gets his shot at the "Champ".
The usual sniping aside -- there's no point in trying to reason with Decebal, he won't listen -- the most important development in this story now is that neither TV network has expressed interest in the fight. That's extremely disappointing, especially because it would give HBO an opportunity to market a young American who might be a factor at 175 for quite a while. Someone should try to put Edwin Valero on the undercard in order to make it more valuable to the viewership. A total bummer if no one picks up this bout, and one of the obvious reasons Dawson's people don't want to go outside the U.S. in the first place.
He definitely is whining and probably it's too early to know what TV will do, but it's hardly unreasonable that neither network would want to travel abroad for a mandatory between two guys who have not captured the public's imagination. Hopefully, one of the minor league players (Vs?) will pick it up and broadcast to America.
He should fight him as soon as Diaconu is healed which means right now. He "proceded with his career" fighting Mendoza and Johnsson ....
Fact: Dawson did everything he could not only not to fight his mandatory, Diaconu, but also to have his mandatory status revoked. Fact: Not fightingyour mandatory when the governing body askes you to, whilst also not dropping the belt constitutes ducking. Conclusion: Dawson ducked Diaconu. Am I going too fast for you?
Dawson's gonna give Diaconu an ass-whipping in his home country. People are getting on Dawson about the Johnson fight but the truth is that a fight like that will make you a better fighter in the long run. He's going from gutting it out against a savvy, in-your-face warrior to facing an undeserving paper champion who, and watch his last fight if you don't believe me, is completely overrated.
:? What is Diaconu 'paper champion' of? Given your confidence that Dawson will take and win the fight, will you do the honourable thing and call him on it if he does duck out, as many are predicting?
A real world champion will defend his title anywhere in the world. If Dawson lives up to his promise he will knockout the poorly skilled puncher, Diaconu, in his own back yard. Don't be distracted by Dawson's lousy performance against Johnson. Dawson can beat anybody in the division if he does his job properly. He tried to take out Johnson early without properly setting up the knockout. Turned out to be a mistake which he is unlikely to repeat.
