It was boring because everyone knew the outcome before the fight even started. Hopefully Tarver will retire after tonight.
They where fighting. I thought it was decent in the middle rounds, there where a few exchanges, each guy got buzzed a couple of times. I'm not saying it was exciting, I didn't even watch the whole thing but it wasn't that bad either. Wlad slapping at Iggys jab is not exciting.
its worse, much worse. maybe the worst fight I've ever sat through from start to finish. It's either that one or Briggs Iggy.
was better than the first fight by alot I thought. They are both solid with their defense. Not the best but not boring.
To tell you the truth, I don't see much difference between Dawson and Pbf. They both are hard to hit, and they have power, and quick hands. They have the same winning percentage. At least Dawson hasn't been given a gift decision. Dawson will be hard to outpoint. Everyone should be calling him the baddest man on the planet. Maybe, Chad should try picking lower weight guys, and then he'll get that reputation.
WAS a very good fighter. How much slower could his hands be? His feet were in cement. When I saw he was stuck in slow-mo I was sure it was just a matter of time. But Dawson must not be good enough to dominate a shot version of Tarver. Everyone talks about the heavyweights, but 175 has to be one of the very worst divisions in boxing.
I would definitely favor Hopkins to beat him. He might not, but he definitely could. Chad fights in spurts and gets tired--this is perfect for Bernard, and even though Chad has fast hands, his punches are telegraphed and he would have a hard time flurrying on Hopkins. He did fight a bit differently tonight. More aggressive, I thought, not as defensive minded as the first Tarver fight or his fight with Adamek. Speaking of Adamek, if they were to rematch at 200 pounds, I like Adamek. Tomasz has gotten better since then, and he would be less inclined to make the types of mistakes I thought cost him the first time around. That said, Chad IS a very good fighter with good fundamentals, goood defense, fast hands, and is an overall slick boxer who seems to show a lot of heart. Unfortunately, he's not very exciting, and doesn't seem to have great power. He beats most guys around his weight range, and he might even beat Hopkins or Adamek. But.... He seemed to be grossly lacking in confidence during the post fight interview. Psychologically, I think Hopkins can get into this youngster's head, and that could be the difference maker if this fight were to happen. I wonder if Hopkins actually wants this fight now? I think it's totally winable. Incidentally, I found it curious that the names Hopkins and Adamek were not mentioned in the post fight analysis. At the very least, their names should have been in the discussion.
Bernard would probably knock Chad out in all honesty! He's chinny to a degree and when he starts to fade, it's light out most likely!
Dawson just doesnt impress me at all. The kid has fast hands, power, can slip a punch, but his focus is ****, and he doesnt really adjust at all when it encountering a difficult style, Johnson fight being the example. He reminds me of Taylor. Athletically gifted, supposedly sound boxer, but not there mentally. Him taking the last rounds off doesnt bode well at all. And despite his impressive combos, he left himself open when throwing. Someone that can fire off the backfoot and time him will hurt him badly He lacks the X-factor, the champion level fighter factor. He is still young and has time to develop, but when I see a fighter this young, and they already look as though they dont have the fire and hunger, it doesnt bode well at all. I can entirely imagine him putting on a Taylor-Froch performance against Tavoris Cloud for example. Outboxes him the whole fight, then takes the last 3 rounds off and gets lazy and Cloud comes back and ends up catching him with something big and stops him. Cloud would beat him I think personally. He would force Dawson to fight at a faster pace, that is for certain. And if Cloud can carry his power late.....its all speculation, just my educated opinion
I think Chad is a bad match up for Hopkins right now, but then again, I'm not doing so well in your challenge :think
I agree, Hopkins can knock him out. I have always believed this. In fact, I used to believe Hopkins would probably have to do that to win. After tonight, I changed my mind. Even if Hopkins couldn't stop him or seriously hurt him, he COULD outbox him. Dawson is not only chinny, but he has stamina issues, and seems to lack confidence. He fades late in fights...there is a pattern forming here. Hopkins can keep it close for six and dominate late. Dawson doesn't have the juice to simply outwork him, ergo, the advantage in hand speed can be neutralized. That Dawson was fighting in spurts and allowing Tarver to have his moments.... I really like Hopkins, and would not be surprised if we see him beat another undefeated fighter later this year.
