Okay my posting mates, all of this LHW talk is getting pretty exciting because it's a heavily underrated division with potential match ups that would fall in the 'hardcore boxing fan's wet dream' category. In my opinion, Chad Dawson is the best that LHW has to offer right now and Szolt Erdei is directly under at the #2 spot. What do these guys have in common? They DOMINATE the B and B+ level guys like true P4P fighters should and show little flaw, Erdei, like Mikkel Kessler, has probably lost less than 10 rounds in his entire career with a less entertaining style than Kessler of course, but an effective one and he's a thinking man's stand up boxer-puncher.:good Both guys have some good wins, maybe a bit to Erdei in terms of more wins, but with Dawson's domination of Tomasz Adamek being a 'signature' win and not just a 'crop' win like Erdei has come up with. I think Erdei would have shut out Adamek also by the way, he's an excellent boxer. Now - Most people aren't familiar with Szolt Erdei, but they are familiar with Chad Dawson. This unification match up would be two A class level in a bout to decide who is the TRUE MAN in the division, even though the media thinks old man Hopkins still is that guy. The winner of this bout would undoubtedly deserve a cemented P4P ranking, as two elite's square off in a unification match up in a pretty hot division in terms of talent and skill. So let's try and forget about the Tarver's and others of the World, because they are not even in the mix with of the level that these two fighters are at anymore. Let's hope this match comes sometime in the near future.
Good test for Dawson. Even though I don't know much about Erdei, from what I've heard, it will be a good test, but Dawson will prob win by UD.
It's not just a test, it's a class elite level unification match up, I'd get very excited if it were announced, about as excited as I was for Calzaghe - Kessler.
Good post, that's the fight to be made! However, there's very little chance that it actually comes through. By the way it's Zsolt Erdei.
Hi Darien! Zsolt doesn't have any fights scheduled currently? Did you see Pavliks win over Taylor? I went to Atlantic City to see this one & I wasn't disappointed at all. :good
I don't know as much about Erdei, and he seems to not care that we don't know about him, which is a problem. The reason I keep mentioning Tarver is that Chad needs to raise his profile, and that's one way to do it. After beating and hopefully brutalizing Antonio, he might have enough money attached to him that he could lure a fight against Erdei or the winner of Calzaghe/Kessler. Dawson's ability as a fighter exceeds his present ability as a revenue source, and a win over Tarver is his ticket to strike a balance.
In the Official ESB rankings this Sunday, I'm rooting for that title to start out as vacant. Hopkins is not the real champion.
Hey, Jetski my old friend! It's good to see you! Zsolt will fight on the 24th November in Dresden, Germany. His opponent is not yet announced but it will most probably be a mandatory so it's up to the WBO. Sure I've seen the Taylor-Pavlik fight! It was awsome! This Pavlik guy has some serious pop and killer instinct!
Hopkins did not fought ANY legitimate LHW contender since he won this title from Tarver ... was that like almost 1.5 years ago? Ring champion should have policy to defend title at least one time in the year against rightfull top 10 contender at this weight class.
I'm not sure but I think Dawson needs to fight Diaconu first when he is going to be healed. I know that interboxe has filed a request to the WBC for Adrian not to loose his mandatory status.:smoke
This would be a chess match early on, you have the two most skilled LHWs facing off. In the later rounds, however, Dawson would start to dominate, he has too many physical factors over Zsolt: huge height and reach advantages, stamina advantage, power advantage, the list goes on. Dawson stops Erdei in the championship rounds after a tactical bout in the early goings. By the way Erdei doesn't shut Adamek out, not even the weight-drained version that fought Chad. Adamek is a bad style matchup for the Hungarian who gases late and was there for the taking against late round pressure fighter Hugo Garay...twice. And Garay is feather fisted. Adamek beats Zsolt by KO. Adamek called Erdei out to make the fight but there was no answer...just as there will be none for Dawson, should he call the Hungarian out.
I have my rankings worked out from MW-HW and my P4P, today I'll work on the rest. I have Hopkins as the #4 LHW, that's being generous. I am glad we agree.:good
