This too.:deal It's a good illustration as why a lot of top p4p fighters do not take these kinds of fights anymore if they don't have to. Same for that Lopez dude that Pavlik had to fight. He turned up to be tough as hell.:yep
dawson is good but he will never be a true p4p fighter till he develops that killer instinct, that drive to succeed when things aren't going his way. That loss to Pascal was inexcusable, it seemed like he gave up in the middle rounds when Pascal put the pressure on him.
It doesn't matter what trainer you put this guy with, he is a heartless fighter happy to win on points in every fight. He should have been going for the KO in the last fight, especially when he is trying to gain a larger fan base. IMO he is a wasted talent that will never reach his full potential... but still a good fighter none the less.
I agree he hasn't been much fun to watch, but check out his resume. Dude is 28 years old and has had eight fights against top-10 opponents in his own division, including six in a row. His record in those fights is 7-1, so to say, "he sucks" is pretty stupid, isn't it? Also, he has had one great action fight: Johnson I. That bout should put to rest any of the heart questions constantly tossed at him, but again, he hasn't been dominant or exciting the way I thought he may be after the Adamek victory. He'll give Hopkins all kinds of problems. That's a 50/50 fight, with Bernard testing Dawson mentally. Chess match, but I like those sometimes. Pair that bout with Pascal/Cloud on the undercard, and you have a great night of boxing.
exactly. Dawson has been fighting guys that have never been stopped, back to back to back, what do fans expect? He just easily beat a recent former champ after a long layoff and with a new trainer. Nothing to get worried about, he lost some rust and picked up an easy W. Lets see how he progresses through his next couple fights before we cast judgement on him.
What does that say about the rest of his opponents he has beaten? (Adamek, Tarver, Diaconu, Johnson) I guess they suck too. Anyways Dawson looked scared to engage with Diaconu, I don't know why because he took Diaconu shots without being close to getting knocked down.
He's talented as hell - speed, skills, reach, but in his last fight, it seems like he lacks a little bit of blood in the veins. Like Abraham nowdays, not exactly bursting with desire.
Dawson is just a frustrating guy to watch but he is clearly very talented. He puts punches together very well, and moves well and reacts well defensively to punches for a lanky *******. He just lacks a fighters mindset, he has no killer instinct and he is happy to do the bare minimum in the ring. If he had a more diligent mindset in the ring or a more fiery one he would be more effective and much more crowd pleasing. Talent gets brought up a lot with guys who have the obvious physical traits but not the mental traits as they are much more tangible.
Dawson has one loss, and a solid resume. He may not be the complete package, but he's pretty damn good anyway. A lot of good fighters get accused of being boring. Wladimir, Ward, Hopkins and even Mayweather etc. Those are the kind of guys who will have great legacies. Sometimes being good is better than being exciting. Half of the people who chant "boring" have the attention span of a bag of dicks. Sure, Chad may be frustrating, but if he can keep fighting good competition and keep winning, then anyone who is worth a damn will respect him anyway.
Hell no, just because he lost about 4 rounds against a very GAME Diacanu doesn't mean he sucks! he was on the verge of possibly stopping Pascal too. I agree he isn't aggressive enough at times, but he's an excellent boxer, very good handspeed and great footwork. Yes he lacks a bit of "willpower" and willingness to trade on the inside but that isn't his type of fighting. He would still lose to Hopkins but he'll probably provide more of a test than Pascal did.
