From the front page. I applaud Joes decision. Its obvious he and his family gave it a lot of thought, said Dawson. Timing is everything and to leave center stage at his peak is rare and certainly comparable to the retirements of Rocky Marciano and Jim Brown. Joe left on his own terms. What could be better? He held the super middleweight championship longer than anyone, successfully defended it a record-21 times, unified the titles, and then moved up to light heavyweight beating two future Hall of Famers. He has been a man for all seasons and will be an inspiration to me as I look to meet and beat his records. On behalf of all your boxing fans I say, 'Thank you, Joe.' And now I am ready to succeed Joe as the new king.. Well said young man, and all the best. Carl Froch take note.
Good stuff from Dawon but he needs to vacate and get out of 175 ASAP. There's nothing there now and the future doesn't look that great either. He should move to 168 and try and fight Kessler, taylor or Bute.
Can he make 168?I believe he could but has he said as much? There are alot big names there and some big fights to be made if he can get down to 168
Joe was never king @ 175. For him to be king of that division he would've needed to fight and beat more top-10 guys from that division and he never did. Pretty simple.
Dawson has always been a polite humble dude. I hope he does well. His rematch with Tarver is garbage but he has a lot of good potential fights including the top supermiddleweights since he said he can make 168.
Sure he can make 168 for most of his fights he enters camp under the 175 limit. He has to put on weight.
he should unify at 175 (which means beating Diaconu, Erdei, and Garay) and then defend his title against all comers a few times. He is still young and has time to do this.
Especially as T-Cloud has been in suspended animation since August. Ive got high hopes for him, but a 5 month gap at this stage of his career is killing him.:-( Someone needs fired.
