I see your logic Dece but I have to disagree mate.If you want to be seriously regarded as a world champion, you have to make roughly one of every three fights(minimum) against credible opponents.Cleverly got lucky that Bellew gave him a barnstormer but the reality was,Bellew was a nobody at the time.
He's a joke, and to infer Froch preferred not to fight him was a joke.

But who is regarding Clev as a world champion? I mean as a real world champion (B-level), world-class fighter, rather than merely a well-promoted belt-holder who got lucky?

If Froch was offered a mill to fight Clev, he'd laugh, take the mill, KO Clev and laugh again.

Sure. And I happen to believe Frank this time.

...UNLESS, Frank had put a few clauses in there, like... he's got options on Froch's next few fights if Froch wins. See, I believe Frank offered him the mill, but not without a few clauses thrown in that made Froch say, thanks, but no thanks.

Froch is probably making half a mill against Mack, before making a huge amount against Bute in the rematch, before having another big-money fight after that. So why become Frank's slave? For an extra half a mill? Not worth it.

No way is Frank just handing over a mill to have Clev knocked out like that, without an angle on Froch.

As I said. Clev knows he is never gonna be more than B- level, so he's not pretending to either. Clever lad. Good for him. I don't blame him for not throwing his career away.

Of course, with fighters like Bute, Dawson, Froch, etc., the expectations from fans have to be higher... my 2 pennies anyway.

For the people who are thinking: what is the reward for Dawson here, if he loses a close decision, say (as is very likely)?

Well, what does Dawson lack more than anything?

It's not money, belts, or even credibility.

Answer is obvious, as demonstrated in this thread.

He is winning a hell of a lot of fans by taking this chance.

Mate,I came into this thread strongly agreeing with you and it's a shame it's come to a completely different matter(my fault:oops:)
But I'm guessing you haven't heard Cleverly's claims in the past.Add to that he's regarded very poorly in the UK,especially as a world champ.I'm not saying he should be fighting P4P's every defence, but a good name once in a while would be nice.
Take Ricky Burns. There's a guy who knows he's never gonna top bills in Vegas, but he takes fights that are genuinely challenging at least every third fight.
    Let's agree to disagree.:good

Everyone in the UK who knows boxing does NOT take Clev seriously. It doesn't matter the way he promotes himself to the casuals.

Cleverly is 25 and milking the belt. He knows he's never gonna be more than B- level. Maybe he's waiting for a big name to sell his '0" too, for a lot of money.

Cleverly is just following the tried and tested Frank school of promotion. It's a great route and the only one that makes sense if you're B- level.

Admirable of Dawson to prioritize his fighting spirit > prudence.

Though I don't always support such decisions, I wish more fighters would do the same.

Yeah I noticed this, suprised Dawson is only getting $600k, something ain't right, Peterson got $650k just being Khan's mandatory down at 140lb, Ortiz got $800k fighting in a non title fight against a seemingly easy oppenant in Lopez.

I reckon Dawson is getting taken advantage of because of his eagerness to just fight regardless of money means the promoters are robbing him.

Pascal is busy so he can't fight Dawson and Ward damn near cleaned his division but he recently dominated the man who dominated the only top fighter at his weight he didn't fight. I respected Dawson since he fought in Canada but going to Ward's weight to fight in Oaklan is nothing short of ballsy. Like both fighters and lets see how Dawson looks before saying he's "drained".

Nothing is going to happen to Dawson.

He will be romanced in this fight, with lotsof loving clinches and pucnhes after the clinches, which is really less powerful than a pitter-patter because there is absolutely noooooooooo leverage.

The worse that he will suffer is a unanimous decision loss --- he ain't going to be knocked down, knocked out, mauled, or marked. And if he plays dirty like SOG Ward, he might actually win being the naturally bigger guy. The head butt would probably cause the worse damage more than any punch.

    Easy 600,000.

I think you know who Calzaghe is Scar . Talked about alot on here for an unknown.
Now Dawson is trying to copy Calzaghe. If Dawson can beat Ward, he can do what only Joe Calzaghe has done and hold the Ring title simultaneously in 2 weight divisions, and Dawson will be doing it in the same divisions as Calzaghe with one of the belts won off a Calzaghe leftover.
Still wont happen. Dawson will get weaker as the fight goes on, was exposed by Pascal, has made his name fighting old fighters, has no pedigree at SMW and no inside game. I wont be shocked if ward beats Dawson like he did A Green and if the fights look similar.
    Very clear Ward UD
