Courtesy of le scene According to promoter Gary Shaw, the Light Heavyweight bout between WBC Champion Jean Pascal (25-1, 16 KO's) and mandatory Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KO's)will take place on August 14th in Montreal, Canada on HBO. The fight date has been pushed back a number of times because Pascal's shoulder was injured in the rematch with Adrian Diaconu and he needs additional time to heal. Fair play to Dawson for going into Pascal's back yard, although I guess with Chad's lack of fan-base it's probably the only option. As Shaw says later in the interview there will be 16,000+ Canadians in attendance. Good fight, how do you see this one playing out??
Dawson will outbox him. Carl Froch gained control of the fight with his jab, its pretty simplistic logic but the same can be expected to happen here because Dawson's jab is far superior in technique and speed. Dawson might have to show more grit than we've been accustomed to seeing recently because I expect Pascal will try to turn it into a brawl when Chad outboxes him.
Chad will box circles around Micheal Phelps (thats what i call Pascal cuz of the way he fights. lol) Dawson has the sharpest game (not the best) in the sport. He boxes the way the textbooks teach you to box. pascal is just made to order for him imo. Love watching Dawson. I just get happy when I see the science being applied properly, chin tucking, lateral movement, misdirection, feints, shoulder rolls, double jabs followed by hooks to the body, accurate combos. Yeah Chad has a few mental flaws (he admires his work, gets lazy etc) But for me Chad is boxing the way I grew up on and he doesn't even need to be fully focused to outclass Pascal Imo.
I think Chad Dawson is the real deal and fully expect him to sit near the top of most P4P lists within the next 2 or 3 years. I like Pascal both as a fighter and a bloke after his appearance at the Froch-Dirrell fight but i can see him being outclassed here. Once Froch got out of 'war mode' and started boxing and using his jab against Pascal he looked relatively comfortable, so i would expect much of the same from a far superior boxer in Dawson. The only way i see Pascal being competitive in this is if he can draw Dawson into a fight, but i think Chad learned his lesson from the Glen Johnson fight and won't allow that to happen again. Dawson clear UD for me
