Well said. People make it seem like Joe Calzaghe ducked so many people, but if they had seen early Joe Calzaghe, they would know that people ducked him. There was also a problem of him crossing over to the US to make some of his big fights because it wasn't like hopkins or Jones would have crossed over to fight him. I personally believe he would have beaten even a prime Roy Jones considering that Calzaghe had lethal speed and used much more boxing skill than even the great Roy Jones. That's not a common belief because most people are stunned by prime RJJ's athleticism and explosiveness, but he just never jabbed effectively enough IMO to have been able to beat Joe in both their primes. People remember that Jones was superhumanly fast, but they forget that Calzaghe was insanely fast himself, except he had the speed of a relentless attacker. RJJ was more of a fast pop shot, flurry type boxer.

I'm a tremendous fan of Calzaghe, but I don't feel there's a need for him to fight Kessler again. I'd watch of course, but he completely outboxed Kessler in that fight. He beat him in the early rounds, and then simply fought very effectively at a distance for the rest of the fight. It was a very professional, yet entertaining fight.

Im a Calzaghe fan but I cant see how Dawson is getting the stick here(mind you, neither should Calzaghe its got **** all to do with him).

Tarver is looking to get paid, be it the rematch or money to **** off and fight someone else. HBO want a big name to help promote Dawson to help push the Calzaghe fight.

If anybody should be getting stick its HBO and Tarver(tho I dont blame Tarver for doing it, he wants to get paid)

Cant see how this thread can turn into a Dawson and Calzaghe bashing orgy. It's got **** all to do with them.

At most Dawson could kick up stink and make his Manager pay Tarver off, but who would he fight on HBO instead?

Who would HBO get behind. Calzaghe and Hopkins isnt happening till Chad raises his profile, Kessler and Taylor are going to get tied up in an increasingly strong SMW division, Pavlik isnt coming up in weight for a while now, Cloud,Garay,Diaconu,Erdei wont get Chad the Hop/Calz fight. Who's left?

When the name of the thread sais Dawson is a nancy boy coward runner, I think it's always been about bashing Dawson.

    And rightly so.

    HBO and Dawson want Calzaghe.

How would you get him then.

I would prefer to see Dawson fight Calzaghe, but if Tarver does indeed have a contract, then it wouldn't really make sense for Dawson to pay Tarver off so that he could go and fight the tougher fight against Calzaghe. Taking less money for a bigger challenge isn't usually good business. It's not like a deal like that would happen by magic, anyway. Calzaghe has been relatively indecisive about where his career is headed. Despite the fact that I agree that Chad Dawson is a lame self-promoter, this isn't all his fault. But at the end of the day, ANY fight can be made, and it is relatively lame of Chad Dawson to not be putting too much of an effort to make a fight that would make his career. It seems like he knows he'd lose, and that doesn't exactly inspire hope in boxing fans.

Johnson was definitely live, Tarver was not. Did you see that fight? He had absolutely nothing on his punches, threw a couple of the most pathetic body shots I've ever seen...I mean he made Hoya's performance against Pac look absolutely scintilating.

HBO and Dawson want a Calzaghe-Dawson fight. Or even Hopkins.

Dawson doesnt have the profile to merit it yet. The Risk/Reward is too great at the momment.

If you were HBO/Dawson camp, How would you go about trying to get them in the ring.

What fights are available to Chad, that HBO wil get behind, to make the fight worth it for Calzaghe/Hopkins.

If beating up Tarver once didn't get Joe or Hop interested I dont see what doing it a second time will achieve.
What about a Unification fight with Garay or the winner of Erdei - Barasharin (or whatever the **** his name is). Then he could start giving it I'm on course to unify the division, I'm the real champion bs.

All I'm saying is it would get him more respect if he fought active champions than he'll get by kicking the **** out of a 40 year old actor on a regular basis.

Do you really disagree with that?

Unfortunately, the sport is not built around respect. It's built around money. Campbell has fought a lot of tough fighters and beat Diaz in March to win 3 belts. Since then, he hasn't fought and he's filed for bankruptcy. A lot of good that respect did him.:-(
