Pfft thats not even a word... besides, aside from my ''fantasy match ups'' this is utter proof that Dawson isn't the so called ''lion'' everyone makes him out to be.

I titled this towards Calzaghe, mainly because a lot of idiots on here, after Pavlik wa crushed, threw Dawsons name about, how he would KO Calzaghe etc. Calzaghe, stating he would most likely retire before even Pavlik was mentioned, was then recently called a coward for ''ducking'' Dawson, when Dawson made his timid fight request...now Calzaghe, had always said, in the New Year he would announce his decision, Dawson arranges a fight late in Dec againts someone he can easily beat who is older than Jones, a clear indication that A: he was never serious about Calzaghe, he was riding fame on Joes back B: He made a decision weeks before Joe is set to announce his own, almost rubber stamping Joes retirement, not forgetting he has done NO PR work to tempt Joe, I keep reffering to Haye, because he is a great example of how you force someones hand into a fight, whats Dawson done for someone apparently desperate to become the best by wanting Calzaghe?

Aside from Joe, everyone is right, he already ducked another big fighters and ditched his belt, and theres plenty of younger better fighters around for him to fight, this does nothing at all for him except highlights he has a big yellow streak.

I don't even want to see a Dawson fan speak highly of this chump, not until he gets a spine and fights either Johnson, or someone of note... or maybe he's waiting for Johnson to hit 40 too, then give a rematch.

He defended the WBC belt 3 times but look at the quality of opponent he defended it against.
Maybe he would have fought Diaconu first time round but by the time it was put to him again he seemed to be making his living fighting C level opponents and washed up B level ones.
This whole thread within the thread started by posters saying Dawson can't give up his belts so he has to take the re-match with Tarver, I'm saying why not get his old belt back, if that's not possible fight for one of the others, if winning belts is what he's about, he doesn't have to fight Tarver to get a belt. If this was Calzaghe people would say he's avoiding the 'live' opponent to fight a shot former champ.

Even if he wanted to, he can't. Diaconu has a fight with Branco, and he had a mando due against Johnson. Furthermore, I doubt HBO would approve the fight. Another thing you have to consider, you don't know what the penalty would be if Dawson breeched the contract and decided not to honor the rematch clause. There could be monetary penalties that we don't know about.

I'm pretty sure Calzaghe has already stated on numerous occasions that he has no interest in fighting Dawson.

My mistake, I did change it to or one of the other belts, Garay has no-one scheduled, Eredei is lineal champ is he not (according to some posters on here the other day,) it's like the prophet was saying there are other fights for Chad than Tarver, who he just beat convincingly.
Saying there could be monetary penalties, fair enough, but it's different from saying he can't give up his belts.
I don't live in America, I'm from the UK, so don't really know the way things work with the American fans, but surely HBO could promote a fight with Chad and Eredei or Garay.

Can Chad get his third belt at 26? all that bull****, surely to **** they could promote a fight between a popular fighter and a world title belt holder.

    Again, you don't know what was written in that contract. You don't know the penalty if Chad were to breech that contract. He's getting a two fight deal from HBO. This quote from Shaw helps to explain the thought process a little;

"In discussing the options with Chad, we wanted to get this out of the way so if an opportunity came up to fight Bernard Hopkins or Joe Calzaghe, or somebody like that, we wouldn't have this fight with Tarver staring us in the face. So Chad said, 'You know what? Let me fight Tarver and get it over with. Let me knock him out this time and then I will have those options in front of me."

Right now HBO won't even approve a fight between Taylor and Froch.

They never do unless its a Mexican or American opponent, hence why it took Calzaghe so long to get all the fights he chased for so long.

All this stinks of hypocrisy, he calls out Calzaghe whom he knows was going to retire, or make a decision in Jan, apparently knowing he HAD to fight Tarver? then he scedules it for March, a couple of weeks before Joe announces anything.

The penalties he would incur would be a drop in the occean had he arranged a fight with Joe, he didn't even attempt, he did a flimsy ''call out'' with no backing up of anything, instead attempting to make himself look like he wanted Calzaghe, I wonder why HBO talked to Calzaghe about Dawson after Jones? the fight would be made, Tarver would likely step aside for some money, Calzaghe would cement his legacy, or Dawson would suddenly become the biggest name in boxing... instead, he fighst Tarver, whats he hoping for? a 45 yr old version of Hopkins and a 38 Calzaghe with ring rust?

Don't call people out you don't have intentions of fighting WIMP!!

So there is only really 2 possible opponents for Chad that would keep HBO happy?
I'm not saying I don't beleive you, just that it's pretty ****ed up. Would someone like Garay not bring in more latino fans, or could they not sell on part of the broadcast rights to European networks if he fought a Euro?
It's all global marketing these days HBO gets seen everywhere, they must be able to get foreign TV audiences with foreign fighters. Few people outside America really care about Tarver.

    :goodSpot on.

What was his excuse for giving Mendoza a shot at his WBC title?

He hasn't fought a 'live' opponent since Adamek, who was struggling to make the weight. He's been cherry picking ever since and is trying to make himself look good calling out Calzaghe when he knows the fight won't happen.

Johnson and Tarver were both live opponents.

HBO is an America based company. Their ratings are heavily determined by the American people. America is the 3rd largest country in terms of population. With that said, why do they need people outside of America to be interested in Tarver?
