Excuse me, but what weight class did Joe end his career at? Who was the biggest thread at 175 at the time?

I know where Joe ended his career, and I know where he spent the bulk of his career, If Dawson is now willing to come down and fight at 168lbs, when alot of fighters are tied up in the division, why didnt he want to come down when there was a real premier fighter in the division?

I don't know that there were never any feelers sent out to that affect. Dawson had fights at 175 but the division is now drying up and perhaps forcing him to look outside. I know he offered to fight Kessler but Palle wanted NONE of that. I really can't say if he ever put out feelers to Calzaghe's camp. I wouldn't be surprised if he did. After all, Joe is now claiming he offered Pavlik a shot when Kelly was a green prospect at 160 and recovering from a hand injury. :patsch

Dawson wanted calzaghe when he beat Lacy. Lacy and Dawson at the time was stablemates and train by Dan Birmingham. If remember correctly he was still in 168 lb division. There was an interview back than. I think on boxingtalk.

I doubt Dawson can make 168lbs and be healthy. I like him, though, as he seems to genuinely be a family man (despite that being nearly impossible to judge if you don't actually live in someone's house) and I hope he can get the paydays he's after. I think people would move up to 175lbs to meet him after the tournament, though. Hopefully he isn't made to drain.

I think that 190 thing was a mistake. He's never been drained like that.

    Here's a pic from the weigh-in:

And here's a pic from the first fight, when he came in officially at 173.75 and no one was mentioning anything about a 190.

And this (awesome) photo is in the ring vs. Johnson II:

He's obviously grown into the weight now. Could he go back? Good question.

Not true. The fight was mooted by HBO. Palle said he would consider the fight at 170 or below. Shaw said Dawson would only fight at 175.

Not how I remember it. They were accusing Dawson of being a cruiser weight. Doesn't matter now though.

Im a big Calzahe fan . but you do know Dawson was already at 175 when Cal moved up and when Calzaghe was at 168 Dawson wasn't even in the picture. Dawson said so himself he would like to fight Clazaghe but knew he wasn't a big enough name at the time to get the fight. After Joe retired he went on to fight johnson and tarver. so if Cal was at 175 why would Dawson have to move down to 168 to get the fight.

honestly the 168 division is a bunch of hype. Really, you got Froch who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and Kessler, who is slightly better than Froch still went life and death with the guy. Then you got Abraham who gets gifted rounds for throwing 3 shots per. All I see is Andre Ward that stands out. He's got good movement and speed, good boxer honestly. Next Lucian Bute is good, but from what we saw vs Miranda there is still more that needs to be seen from him cause Miranda does get caught frequently. But his 2nd fight vs Andrade was pretty good, don't know how in shape Andrade was though. Andre Direll, Jermain Taylor, and Allan Green all still have chances to come back strong from their robbery, loss, and inactivity, respectively.

I have a hard time seeing Taylor doing anything anymore, honestly.

As far as Dawson...I'm just curious how everyone thinks he matches up skill-wise against those at 168.

That's because you were all caught up in the 'OMG Kessler is ducking everyone' meme at the time and didn't bother to read what anybody actually said.
