Dawson-Tarver rematch is a disgrace to the sport

Dude THERE WAS A REMATCH CLAUSE TO THE FREAKING CONTRACT IN WHICH STATES THAT IF TARVER LOSE TO DAWSON IN THE FIRST FIGHT THAT TARVER CAN USE HIS REMATCH CAUSE RIGHT AWAY TO FIGHT DAWSON! Damn PEOPLE THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude you don't get it. Dawson has to fight Tarver again rather that fight is for the title or not. Do you know what rematch clause is? Johnson fight Tarver again in the rematch cause it was in the rematch clause and that fight wasn't for any title belts.

 

The rematch clause is there for the IBF light heavyweight title belt
If Dawson drops the belt and fights Johnson...then Tarver will be fighting for a vacant title....thats how a rematch clause works.

So what should he do...Dawson...he should relinquish the useless belt and fight the best....fight Johnson, fight Hopkins, fight Diaconu....somebody who presents a real challenge for him.

 

Perhaps HBO has mistaken Dawson-Johnson for Dawson-Tarver? That's the only thing makes sense as to why they'd want to buy this fight, especially after making their big statement about no more mismatches. Rematch clauses are generally for fights that are close. And rematch clause or not, Johnson deserves a rematch, Tarver doesn't.

The only way out of this for Dawson is to land a fight with a "live" (at least someone he hasn't already beaten in a lopsided manner) opponent that pays more money and can cover what it would take to pay off Tarver. My issue is that it seems like he didn't even really look. He would've made more had he fought Diaconu instead of vacating, but he's booked now. I would think he would've tried a little harder to land a BHop fight or make a Kessler fight happen if he really wants to fight Calzaghe. Both of those would be PPVs. And JC's not gonna wait around forever.

Like I said before, I think he should be pursuing RJJ. Roy didn't get KO'd and he's obviously looking to pad his pension, and I doubt he fears Dawson's "power". I think Roy's speed makes it a much more competitive fight than a Tarver rematch, and its the perfect way to bait Calzaghe into fight, without having to go through the bigger challenges of Bhop or Kessler.

 

The funniest thing about this is that unless something is worked out with Cloud and/or the IBF, the rematch will not involve the IBF title at all as Dawson will have to drop the belt in order to avoid Cloud and fight Tarver. Which means this rematch could be even worse than it already appears to be.

...the rematch didn't have to be immediate. That is, Dawson could have chosen to fight Cloud, thus keeping the belt, and then actually rematch Tarver while still holding the belt (which may be part of the premise of the rematch clause, according to what Goose is saying), if he beat Cloud.

But Team Dawson chose not to do that, instead taking a fight against an old Tarver with the timing such that Dawson is likely to have to drop the IBF belt unless something is worked out with Cloud and/or the organization.

 

Damn, this whole thing just keeps getting worse and worse. He needs to man up, actually fight his mandatories for a change, and face Johnson again. Otherwise, F-ck Chad Dawson!

 

His handlers are either insane or more genius than I can comprehend, because on the surface some of the moves they've made just don't make sense.

I really wish people would appreciate that a rematch clause means you have to rematch. It's not like Dawson has asked to fight Tarver again. I sincerely do hope that people realise that, and are purposely acting dumb.

If life was fair, Dawson would've manned up and given Johnson the rematch. But this is reality and business. Johnson should've had a rematch clause just like Tarver's people did. Dawson really had no choice. He had to either fight Tarver right away or later down the road. The thinking from his people is that there is no big fight right now so might as well get it over with right now.
