Dawson is young and inexperienced and therefore has time to learn and improve but at the moment I wouldn't fancy his chances against Tarver, calzaghe or Hopkins.

No, he wouldn't. Dawson still needed to answer questions about himself at the top level, Calzaghe already has. I was wrong about two things pre-fight, how past-it Johnson is (holy **** I knew Glen was tough, but wow.. I think it was the best performance of his career) and how well Dawson deals with predictable, but constant pressure.

Calzaghe's overall defense and ringsmarts are better, he adjusts better, his movement is better, his punch output is better, he deals with pressure much, much better, and has a better chin. After tonight I think the toughest fight for Calzaghe would be against a fighter he has already beaten, Kessler. Bute and anyone 168/under is an obvious win and at 175, the only guy who's a threat to him in the weak division is still Dawson. I think Calzaghe stops Dawson now. His defense is too leaky and he gets careless after he gets hit, plus he doesn't stick to a plan well right now, has a pretty much "proven shaky chin", and he would get beaten by Calzaghe on the inside. Calzaghe would be able to hurt him and he's a very strong finisher, unlike Johnson. If Calzaghe had him in a similar situation today where Chad seemed like he was ready to go, he would swarm him with insane combinations, confuse him, and finish him.

    7-5 Dawson

I never expected Johnson to show up the way he did tonight. He stepped it up and he put on what I think is the best performance in his career. The guy is a true warrior and he won't be forgotten. Dawson can still improve. He showed great heart in there, but he also showed many flaws. He has time to make his style more effective and sharpen up his skills. His talent level is great and he has the heart/desire to do well, hopefully he will improve in the future because he is fun to watch and a good guy.

ive seen a few threads on here choosing johnson over calzaghe?! if clinton woods can get a draw and victory over johnson then joe would do the same and a lot more. glen johnson is a warrior and has a great style to watch, however calzaghe would have too much speed, ringsmart and workrate for johnson. he also has the chin to take johnsons shots

Calzaghe eats pressure fighters for breakfast, fact. Boxers like Dawson are at stylistic odds with pressure fighters, fact.

Learn more about the game and post in unbiased form next time out.

Dawson didn't lose to Johnson. I had Bad Chad winning 8-4

    Calzaghe would crack Dawson's chin.

Glen Johnson is a pressure fighter with very good defense. Calzaghe would win but he would have to go 12 hard rounds.

116-112 Calzaghe and it would be a war, just like I predicted a Dawson UD about 8-4 in a war

The difference is that Johnson cannot hurt Calzaghe and Calzaghe doesn't fold to pressure like Dawson and freeze up when he gets stunned, it'd be wider than 116-112 and would be an outclassing.

Dawson's combination punching was outstanding. He was leading with double and triple jabs, showing great foot movement and still Johnson was able to land. Dawson is at as fast as Joe is during this point and a better body puncher. You will see a durable Glen Johnson able to get to Joe throughout the fight. It still won't be enough though.

I think Calzaghe would stop Dawson by the 8th round.

Either that or win at least an 8-4 decision, fairly scored.

people are so ****ing dumb. Geez, I'm sick of fanboys saying things about boxing but they dont really know the fight game. Johnson isnt an easy fight for anyone.

I'd pick Calzaghe over Johnson but I dont think it would be easy. I think Joe C would win 8 to 4 or 9 to 3 but it would still be a tough fight for him.

As far as Dawson fighting Joe C, I dont think he'd win right now. The guys still learning. He just had a tough fight with an accomplished fighter, I'm sure he'll learn alot from it.
