Dawson v. Diaconu OFF. Diaconu to fight for WBC Interim Champ in March in Bucharest.

    According to various credible articles in the Romanian press,

    as a result of Don King's meddling, the WBC have decided to give Diaconu the chance to fight for the WBC Interim Championship on the 29th of March in Bucharest, either against Silvio Branco (#2) or against Chris Henry (#3) - to be decided. Diaconu has accepted the deal. So Dawson gets to fight Johnson with the belt on the table and Diaconu gets an Interim Champion shot. Better still:

    According to WBC rules, if Diaconu becomes Interim Champion, Dawson will be obliged to defend his WBC Champion title against Diaconu within 120 days (from the 29th of March)

    This suggests that if both stay unbeaten, we might see Dawson v. Diaconu by 29th of July 2008.

    good news for both men, no? Diaconu is working out some ring rust and showing us whether he is really as dangerous as all that; Dawson is getting his money and fame by fighting NAME Johnson. And then, if they're both unbeaten, they fight each other for the full title.

    This would seem reasonable for both fighters because Diaconu needs to shake off some ringrust before a championship match and Dawson just needs to stay busy. I still wish the fight between Dawson/Johnson was earlier. But damn Don King, he f***s anything that he touches.

    This sounds reasonable. Hopefully, Chad will dispose of both Johnson and Diaconu, then take on Tarver or Woods late in the year. Chad needs to have a big 2008 if he hopes to make a big PPV fight against one of the old guard at 175 before they're all retired.

    Because the Johnson fight is in April and Dawson wants a go and the WBC wants to hold onto Dawson. Diaconu is also happy because now, according to the rules, if he becomes WBC Interim Champion and the Champion doesn't fight him within 120 days, for any reason, including injury and illness, the Interim Champion becomes Champion. So, either Dawson, after disaptching Johnson fights Diaconu, or he gets stripped and Diaconu, after becoming Interim Champion, becomes WBC Champion.

    I seriously doubt Dawson would just hand over Diaconu the belt, especially now that it seems like Dawson will get the recogintion that he desires once he beats Johnson. (and he will) I see Johnson as a more dangerous matchup than Diacon anyway. Yeah Diaconu is a puncher but he seems limited.

    Everyone wants the Dawson v. Diaconu fight to happen, including Diaconu :nod and ... Dawson.:D

    But I doubt Diaconu wants to fight Dawson right now because he still has ringrust to shake off, so even if Don King didn't intervened on the purse bid, Diaconu wouldn't fight Dawson right away anyway. This would seem like a more reasonable move for both camps if it does turn out like this. But with Don King you never know, he might demand a fight between the two right away.

    Of course Diaconu would have fought Dawson right away! You're not suggesting he would have said NO to Dawson, are you?:huh

    i am glad to see that both fighters are getting on with their careers. It looks as if there will be a fight in the future with these two if they can win their fights. GOOD! finally after so many months. I even had tickets to the first one, will definately go to the fight if it is in the US or Canada.

    Sounds like a smart move for both guys. With a little more name recognition to build up hype, which both fighters can get by taking care of business convincingly against their next opponents, this fight will get much more buildup than if they would've just fought last year.
