Dawson is a case of fast hands, good combination punching, no brain. He was aggressive but ineffective in the two rounds Hopkins-Dawson lasted, and that largely contributed to the shoulder slam he committed.

Hopkins never starts aggressively now, he works out his opponent's rhythm and then takes away their tools. Against Dawson he'd already removed his left hand and his normal strategy of boxing his way in. No one knows how the rest of the fight would have gone, but I suspect Hopkins would have frustrated the younger man all night and nipped a decision.

Dawson clearly isn't quick to adapt but we can see him trying to change. Whether it sticks or not is the issue.
