They are the top 2 rated fighters in the world and should get it on to see who's the champion of the division ... I think Bernard has the advantage being the more recognized fighter, but I doubt if Chad Dawson prices himself out knowing what could be ahead of him. Thoughts? and if they fought what would be the likely outcome?
Close decision and i'd probably favour Hopkins. Dawson only puts effort in for about 30 seconds a round so I can't see Bernard's stamina being a problem, and his overall ring IQ will be what wins it for him. I think Hopkins would make Dawson bring the fight to him, stay out of range and counter occasionally round after round. From what ive seen of Dawson (admitted only 3/4 fights) I don't think he'd be comfortable having to be the aggressor.
I think it would be a replay of either the Jermain Taylor fight or the fight that he had with Joe Calzaghe. At the end of the day if Hopkins' loses he'll have some finger pointing going on. "The crowd and the fans around the world know who won this fight"
Calazghe and Taylor won pretty much on workrate though - not sure Chad Dawson can do this from what ive seen of him. I think Hopkins and Nazeem Richardson would work a plan out to frustrate Dawson.
Taylor won on speed and combination punching, similar to what Dawson would do. Dawson's stamina is better than Taylor's, but at the same time the southpaw stance is a little bit more suited to Hopkins' strengths. I think it makes for an intriguing fight.
Agreed. People are extremely high on Dawson and I just can't see what the fuss is about. Yes he is skilled, but he takes way too much time off and that's exactly the opposite of what you want to do against hopkins at this stage in his career. Hopkins should take this fight, win, and retire.
Hopkins is 44 years old, I don't think he has the youth or the stamina to beat Dawson. Dawson is too skilled and too young for someone like Hopkins. And lets put things in perspective here, Hopkins has said on numerous occasions that he doesn't want to fight Dawson. He mocked Dawson and Paul Williams when they called him out. But he publicly said on numerous occasions that he wants to fight Carl Froch. Who do you think Hopkins wants to fight.
Carl Froch. Dawson doesn't bring much money, isn't very popular outside of his fans who follow boxing as a sport. Fighting Froch would probably sell out a large arena and bring good money from both sides of the pond. Plus, it's an easier fight IMO. Added to that, Hopkins would become a 3-weight world champion by winning.
So you are basically ingoring styles and going with the same "Hopkins is too old" argument that has failed for the past 5 years...
