I didn't keep score but I thought it was very close. Johnson was the aggressor throughout and rocked Dawson repeatedly, sometimes badly. The judges scores were kind of suspect. 116-112 in a fight that close was surprising. It was the type of swing fight where I thought it could've gone 115-113 either way. And there was one round where giving it to Johnson 10-8 wouldn't have been out of the question
Johnson won the fight, easy. If you don't believe go and watch the fight again. I was ringside. He tried to swap with Johnson and got hurt. . .BAD! A draw would have been fair because the close rounds usually go to the Champ. Shaw had already made Tarver/Dawson so anything short of a KO by Johnson was a victory for Chad. He will never fight Johnson again because he knows he will lose again! And no I am not a hater or a Johnson fan so find some new stupid **** to say!
Dealing more damage does not necessarily win you a fight, and Glen definitely did more damage but wasn't consistent enough to win the fight. He basically gave away the early rounds to Dawson, and it cost him on my card.
I have seen the fight over 20 times, and every single time i score it one point for Dawson. Johnson did good work in rounds 3, 5, 6, , 10 and 11. However, Dawson came back in those very same rounds and was putting those boring rounds in the bank, keeping Glen at the end of punches and controlling the fight with his boxing ability. Dawson made the fight harder on himself by banging with him, and was easily winning the fight when he would box smartly.
Johnson was not a mandatory, he was a good name that Chad picked because he was focused on the big fights and a win over Johnson would look good to start out with. I lost a little respect for Glen when he got on youtube and starting telling Chad's fans not to support him so he couldn't sell himself in the future. :bart
I thought I'd bump this, since the Dawson talk is hot again, due to his potential fight with Calzaghe.
