Most sites I have went to stated that Dawson will be "defending" his belt against Johnson come April 12.

Call me crazy, but I disagree...I think it's better for Dawson and Diaconu if they fight each other...even if Diaconu loses, it's still better for him, long-term. If their teams are interested priamarily in money because "boxing is a business", then, sure!

 

Yes...and what is inaccurate about that? He would be defending because as long as he does it before the 25th of April when the WBC strip him (presumably), he is still the belt holder, despite not having complied with the 25th of January deadline for fighting a volunary defence...

 

I never said the link was inaccurate. All it says is that Dawson needs to mount a defense before January 25 against any voluntary opponent, and that Adrian Diaconu was still his mandatory. It didn't say anything about Dawson needing to fight Diaconu before April 25. You can check every major boxing site, they all say that Dawson is fighting Johnson and mentions nothing about Dawson being stripped of his title. I want Dawson fighting Diaconu too, but I think Dawson will still have his belt come April 25.

 

You are right...I cannot find those links that said that either; very strange...Maxime provided that quote and it comes from a link...it's all 100% true; those of us who have followed this closely have seen those links...unless the WBC have changed their minds, things still stand as I have said...let's wait for further news.

 

To srip or not to strip! We should know in the next hours because I am sure Interbox is actually on the phone with the WBC to make sure that the organization maintains his ruling decision taken during the last Convention.

this will be yet another stiff test from elite comp for Dawson and its good that Johnson can get another shot...Dawson should win a hard fought UD...

 

Good news according to this link http://www.***********.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151214 a match up with Dawson and Diaconu is still possible. Apparently Lacy doesn't want to fight Tarver in April because of his association with Gary Shaw. So if a match up between Tarver and Lacy is cancelled, the bout between Johnson and Dawson can change as well.
