What do you hope happens next for Calzaghe?

    Dawson

Probably the only legitimate fight left, and if won, at the very least would gain short term credit for taking on a young talented undefeated belt holder at LH, and at the very best would move Calzaghe significantly up the ATG list where he probably is about 75-100 at the moment, if Dawson goes on to have the career many expect and his talents point too. Would retire having seen off all legit challenges left with a well recieved fight in Cardiff.

    Retirement

The only legit challenge left is Dawson, he is not a huge name and has only wins over two 40yr old fighters, one impressive the other contested. Risk/Reward could well be low. In the future could lose to Taylor,Cloud,Jacobs,Diaconu,Froch or others and would not be a highly thought of scalp in the future, leaving him no higher thought of than he is now and a compareable victory to Lacy. Calzaghe's style does not age well, and pushing 37 his best days are surely behind him and retireing at the top of his game should be his next step.

Dawson is NOT the only legitimate fight left out there for Calzaghe. I know it is boring of me to keep reminding people, but there are a few other legitimate fighters out there left, even if you don't include Hopkins and Kessler - there's Johnson and there's Bute...both have a good claim. :good

Kessler will be Calzaghe's dynasty in my opinion. No need to go after Dawson

Risk/reward is way too low. Dawson's 6'3", a natural LHW, with youth, speed and stamina. He's not a 'resume' fight, just a legitimate champ to challenge, so if Calzaghe wins, big deal, if he loses, the 'O' goes forever.

Obviously you never want to see a fighter like Calzaghe leave the sport. Dawson would be a great fight for the true fans of the sport. IMO he could make it his true going away fight. Dawson would probably be willing to make an extra buck by fighting in the UK, and it would be a great event over there. There's no need to try and trick the casual fan into a RJJr or BHop rematch. He might as well make a good, non-ppv fight with Dawson, where an impressive win really would cement his legacy as one of the best of his generation. And if Dawson were to pull the upset, or make it a close fight, a new star would truly be born in boxing.

I voted Dawson, only because to see calzaghe fight again would be a treat. Not because Dawson deserves it. He's american so max kellermann and others alike will always find a new challenger. Why not retire and pass the baton onto dawson?? First it was pavlik now him. It will never end.

Chad is my favorite fighter and I'd love for him to fight Joe.

However, I feel Chad should prove himself vs. Hopkins and go from there as he will need to bring more to the financial table vs. Joe.

If Chad beats bernard, people will be calling for the Calzaghe - Dawson bout WAY more than they are now.

When Dawson actually fights one of his contemporaries, something guys like Jones, Hopkins, and Calzaghe have all done, and wins then he can get his shot at Joe. He shamelessly ducked the Diaconu fight in Romania, which would have netted him his biggest payday to date at 1.3 million and would have turned the fight with Tarver into a unification match.

Dawson needs to fight Diaconu or Henry, win one of those two and then you make an argument for fighting Joe, until then Joe is better off retiring.
