I predict this is Dawson's next high-profile bout. I guess Taylor's contract with HBO -- does he still have one? -- could gum up the works, but I know Dawson always has had a chip on his shoulder about Taylor.

The Johnson/Diaconu likely won't be ready until late 2009, at the earliest, and I don't expect Calzaghe will look in Dawson's direction.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dawson-Taylor. It would be a great fight but I wonder what weight it would take place at? A catch weight of 170 would be my guess.

I don't think he would move to 175 but probably would agree to fight at 170. But who knows? Dawson doesn't weight drain and could make 168.

Lacy would get destroyed by Dawson, that much is certain. Taylor would get worked over as well. Neither Lacy or Taylor should even be thinking about fighting Dawson.

My guess is the fight would be contested at 170. No problem for either guy.

I think he would edge Taylor in a good fight very skillful fight.

Dawson/Lacy would be an ass kicking of the highest order. For Jeff's sake, I hope he doesn't ever go in that direction.

Dawson/Taylor would be a shootout. I think these guys would take this bout personally, and Dawson should win based on superior speed and stamina. Taylor's lack of stamina is his downfall, unfortunately.

I mis-typed there. I meant that Dawson vs. Diaconu/Johnson wouldn't be ready until then. Do you think it would be earlier?

    'The Pavlik Effect'

IMO Taylor is not what he once was. And even at his best, he loses focus too much. Chad beats him then, now, and in the future IMO, though prime for prime it would have been competitive.

I agree about Pavlik. He is going to be the biggest payday fight in the weight range in about a year or so. I have big doubts that Pavlik goes back to middleweight due to size and lack of reason(outside of Abraham and/or Winky). If Pavlik beats Hopkins then it would be great to see a Dawson-Pavlik fight built up. Pavlik could use a couple good lightheavyweight wins and there is a possible Showtime/Hbo thing that might need worked on. But late 2009 or even 2010 a Pavlik-Dawson fight could be very big at lightheavyweight.

Those are the kind of guys Diaconu needs to be facing if he wants to get into the big fight mix. He's going to have a hard time getting Dawson, Calzaghe, Pavlik, Hopkins, etc in the ring when his biggest win is over Rico Hoye. And beating up an old Bronco won't help much either. If Diaconu could beat Glen Johnson(which I don't think he can) then he is in a lot better position to land the big names, though he might need another win of that caliber before he actually lands one. But Johnson would be a big step in the right direction.

The Branco fight was mandated by the WBC just as a fact,he didn't want it and actually team Diaconu sent a letter to the WBC to fight Glen directly but they didn't want to.Apparently Cherchi(Branco:s promoter) payed more than a ''sanctioning fee'' to the WBC.And Branco has a chin and heart.
