Dawson's next fight will be against his mandatory challenger Adrian Diaconu. The fight must be held before April 25th.

The negociations are in progress. Diaconu's promoter (Interbox) has already submitted an offer to Dawson's promoter (Gary Shaw) during the WBC convention. The offer is for a fight in Montreal or Romania. Shaw will surely push for having the fight in USA, but he must find a US network interested in that fight. If not and if they go to purse bid, I consider Interbox's chances to get the fight as very good.

This sounds very interesting! Do you have a link (in any language) stating these facts?

Could Dawson not fight a voluntary by the 25th of January and still fight Diaconu before the 25 th of April?

    :good

Well the winner is truly a worthy opponent for Calzaghe. I mean, woods has not done enough as of yet, and while dawson is great, he is still kinda a prospect. But the winner is unified champ and would be a great fight for Calz.

Source: Today's edition of the ''Journal de Montreal'' which is one of
the local newspaper. Unfortutanely, there is no online version of the report.

Yes Dawson could make a voluntary by Jan. 25, but it won't likely happen. Then 90 days later he must fight his mandatory. That's why the Diaconu-Dawson will be held within April 25. Note that Dawson wanted to push back that fight in Fall 2008, but the WBC ordered him
    to fight Diaconu immediately.

    Thank you very much, tuna!

Yeah, you're right...90 days is not ideal...rumours I have heard are that Dawson might fight Diaconu in January or February, and perhaps even on the 29th of February, in Montreal, when Bute make his first voluntary defense. That would be AWESOME! I am sure American TV would buy that too!:happy

See Decebal....I did not even thought about that possibility of Feb. 29
along with Bute. That would be awesome. For making it happen, Shaw and Interbox must reach a deal before the purse bid. A US network must definitely be involved. As Bute's next opponent for his voluntary will not be known before mid-December, it gives a month to Interbox to knit a nice offer ($$$) to Dawson with the help of a US network.

Bute and Diaconu in world title fights on the same card, that would mean 17-18000 fans in the Bell Center.

Even if it's only 15,000 (5,000 more than for Bute v. Berrio), with an American TV network behind it and a career high purse for Dawson, I think he might take it!

    Wrong....they were 13000 for Bute-Berrio;)

On the other end, considering that Interbox is not a big stall, they might be willing to organize two separate events with let's say 10 000 fans each time. Their other young boxers will see more action. Some
of them (Gaudet et Gauthier) are very closed to step up in term of opposition level. So, they must box as often as possible.

    :admin 13,000!!!:happy :happy :happy

Yeah, maybe only by organising two events could they pay for both Dawson and Bute's voluntary...

    Here is the link Decebal:

It says here that Dawson TRIED to duck Diaconnu making a optional defense first but WBA wouldn't have it.:hat

    Thanks for that!:good

It doesn't say he tried to duck Diaconu, though, does it...but simply that he was trying to fight someone else in Spring, before fighting Diaconu in Autumn...but that the WBC decided that he had to fight Diaconu by the 25 April, and, if he wanted to fight a voluntary defense, it would have to be by the 25th of January.

Makes a lot of difference...especially since Dawson was trying to pay Diaconu step aside money to agree to the whole plan, and Diaconu had not, and would not have agreed...(Dawson would have had to get Diaconu to agree to take the money to wait until Autumn, before he could have fought Tarver in Spring...)

Make no mistake Woods would be by far and away Dawsons hardest contest to date and no walk-over. Clinton is a good honest pro who despite being the underdog you could not rule out.

However, Dawson would win this on points i think. But in a quality fight

i hope this happens and woods gets another decent payday. i think he'll make each round competitive, but dawson will win by a wide UD.

who knows...if this happens before or around the same time as joe - bhop, maybe the winners could fight.
