I like Dawson, am pulling for him to reclaim the top spot (unless by some miracle him and hopkins fight, in which id be rooting for Hops).
Not a lot of excitement at 175, or with Dawson. He was downright passive against Pascal, who certainly isn't much himself. Great opponents make great fights and great fighters. 175 and Dawson lack the spark.
Dawson will prove that he's the best 175lb fighter on the planet. Every fighter has a bad night. Before this he easily beat Glen Johnson in the rematch who since then has had several impressive victories, beat Tarverx2, Outclassed Adamek who's bloody worshipped on here with ease
I like Dawson. He's not a KO artist, but he's very skilled. I thought he was about to KO Pascal when the fight was stopped. I think he'd beat the sh*t out of Pascal in a rematch.
he comes across in the ring like he has no heart. he goes through all the motions, and wins most of the time doing so, but its just so lackluster. this is not to say he does not have talent, cause he clearly does.
I thought you said every fighter has a bad night. Furthermore, it should be clear by now that as a LHW Adamek was not fighting at his optimal weight class. Guy comes in at 220lbs, trim and fit. Folowing that win by Dawson compare what each man has done with their respective careers. Most of all, its the style, the attitude and the guts that Adamek brings to the table that endears him to so many.
I think part of it was that he just wasn't and still isn't active. I mean, he doesn't have an exhilirating style or a defined fan base and instead of going out and being more active and perhaps developing a fanbase he tended to want to sit down and wait for a big fight (Hopkins, Calzaghe,etc.). Not that his record didn't indicate that he didn't deserve a shot with them but he simply wasn't a draw. Other "boring" of the recent era have tended to have to pay more dues than him to get a huge fight and he seemed to expect it quicker than most. Also, his fight against Pascal was simply painful to watch. It just didn't seem like he wanted to win in there. I'm a Dawson fan, but I wish he would be more active and focused.
I dont like to be too harsh on fighters, but the above is basically true. How can you let Pascal take your title away without so much as fight? I mean, your supposed to be a champion!, so fight like one, dont let him take it without putting up any resistance. This on the back of his lackluster displays against Tarver and Johnson(rematch), of coarse no one expects him to knock Glen out, or Tarver for that matter, but given that they are old fighters, dont just make them look old by Boxing around them, try to put a few exclamation marks on a few rounds to show them who is boss, to give the fans something to hold their concentration.
He was being rated so highly like some kind of destructive force yet was frustrating as hell in the ring. I personally don't want to watch him fight ever and I love to watch ALL fights and styles. The man is straight up boring and frustrating, he punches a bit then takes the round off, he stuns his opponent yet backs off and takes the damn round off. I can't watch something frustrating and stupid like that. A 45 year old grand senior Bernard Hopkins showed more fire in ONE round against Pascal than Dawson's entire career.
**** i finally agree with you everyone had him down as the floyd mayweather of the higher weight but he didn't have half the skills, the only thing in common was being trained by floyd sr at one time and being black.
