Same day weigh ins are stupid. You have no chance to even rehydrate. you will do damage to yourself doing same day weigh ins. It would be great if fighters didn't shed so much weigh, but the reality is they do and will even when it's same day weigh ins. Atleast give them an opportunity to eat and rest before fighting and taking blows to the head. If your dehydrated and taking punches it can only end in disaster.

If guys fight in their proper weightclass then the rehydration problem becomes a non-issue...

I don't need years of scientific evidence to know this makes sense. At least Flip has the balls to admit the mistake.

But the weigh-in pep rallys, mixed with all the other politics means it will sadly be awhile before the change.

This is a fight sport, I deff agree there will still be dangers, but a step in the right direction is better than doing nothing to try to help the overall well being of our fighters.

I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS

Guys like Quillen at 160 coming in as Light Heavyweights.

    Welterweights coming in as middleweights.

Junior Welters, Coming in as Jr Middles and Middleweights (Matthysse came in the ring 158 against Molina)

It's crazy and unfair for the dudes who actually have the discipline to fight in their actual weight classes. (Pac, Floyd, Bradley, Lara etc)

I agree. It is only fair to the man who is in shape and fighting at the proper weight. Some will argue fighters would go in too dehydrated and spent but that is only true if the fighter is not fighting at his true weight class. Weighing in a day before or more, heavily benefits the guy who is too big to be fighting legitimately in that weight class.

It's not about them being weakened though? You understand what happens when you dehydrate right? You lose fluids on the brain, taking blows to the head whilst this is the case is only goin to cause serious damage. I agree fighters should fight in there proper weight class but it just won't happen. Day before weigh ins are the best way to stop fighters harming themselves through stupidity.

How about a dehydration test? :conf

We do those in our high school wrestling team (so kids don't drain themselves).

How often was this a problem when they had same day weigh ins?

I can't imagine boxers dehydrating themselves nowadays if we had same day weigh ins because it would give them a disadvantage.
