I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the card.

Happy New Year, everyone! Be safe, be merry!

Frank Sanchez is not 31 years old

These Cubans love knocking 5-10 years off their age

For me Kabayel had the performance of the night. The commentators were laughing about how he was going to get destroyed all week. When he came center ring for the instructions, that stare down was fearless, you could tell Makhmudov was getting nervous from it.

Perception has shifted now with Usyk/Joshua and Fury/Wilder but I don’t think it’s as straight forward. I am just thinking about Fury being known to fight to his opponents level, Wilders form, Wallin being a former sparring partner, those are all things to consider.

Definitely looking forward to the next big events.

Pook, didn’t you say Wilder was going to destroy Parker and Joshua would lose to Wallin?

Why not just give credit where credits due? Fury was dropped, not once, but twice. If the other knockdown was counted, he lost. That’s not fighting to the level of your competition, that’s being 100% shithouse with a chin that is shot to bits.

I have already given them plenty of credit in other threads.

But to me, that was not the same Wilder. Ofcourse Parker deserves the credit that he came in fresh and ready, it’s on Wilder that he didn’t. Parker did everything right and he deserves a big fight maybe a title shot. I think it would be cool if he would win a World Title again. The whole story for me started with Parker, Joshua, Fury, and Wilder about who was going to turn out to be the best. Parker was the first to fall off the wagon but now it’s like he returned from exile and he is back in the mix. It’s a cool storyline.

As for Joshua he looked very good. But he is still the old Joshua. Even before he lost to Ruiz I always had this thought that he looks beatable and on the wrong night someone would beat him with a spirited performance. Someone not necessarily better then him, but just wrong place wrong time.

I still think that way about Joshua. Nothing changed.

And how do you feel about Tyson Fury that was knocked down multiple times by the limited Wilder (earlier and easier than the likes of Spilzka). Against Wilder 3, Chisora and Whyte he looked awful. Sure, he beat them, but as he should have done. Hell, John Fury stated the same - they were paydays and nothing more. He also admitted that Fury looked shithouse.

Now, was it an off night against Ngannou, or is Fury actually over hyped? Parker’s S&C coach said that he was in camp with Tyson for 12 weeks. Zero issues in camp and came in very serious for Ngannou.

Which also adds to the suspicion that Fury is now cycling in the off season until his anticipated match up with Usyk. He ducked the Dec 23 date like no other active heavyweight has before (other than Whyte/Wallin).

Nice summary as always Rummy. Some excitement and fresh blood to the heavywweight scene. I hope De Mori moves up he will make for some exciting fights. Would love to see him face Usyk if Usyk can best Fury. Sanchez looked good too. As you stated Joshua looked the best he has in awhile. Maybe it was because they were extensive sparring partners, whatever the reason good sign for him.
Let’s get Usyk vs Fury done and look forward to a promising new dawn

You are talking like Parker never lost, got put on his ass, or knocked out.

He looked awful against Whyte? Parker lost to Whyte. And ofcourse you will say that was prime Whyte not shot Whyte. But that is exactly the point: Wilder was shot when he did fight Parker. And Fury helped Parker prepare for Wilder FFS.

It'll be interesting to see what the new WBC ratings look like when they come out in a couple weeks.

Wilder was #1. Parker was #8. Joshua was #2. Sanchez was #4 (behind Makhmudov). Ajagba was #5.

Joshua will likely be the #1 contender in the next ratings. Sanchez could be as high as #2. Or it could be Parker. Ajagba probably goes to #4.

Joshua, Sanchez, Parker and Ajagba is an interesting mix. We've already seen Joshua-Parker and Sanchez-Ajagba, but Sanchez-Parker and Joshua-Ajagba would be good.

Fury's people are already saying if they win the Usyk fight, they may not go ahead with the rematch.

So, with a Fury win, they could head straight to Fury-Joshua. They wouldn't even need Saudi money to host that one in the UK.

It should be an interesting few months.

Right. Parker overcame the odds and won fair and square. But Wilder landed fewer punches over 12 rounds than Muhammad Ali did against Larry Holmes in 10 rounds. (Wilder landed like 39. Ali 42.)

I think in six of the 12 rounds Wilder landed from 0-3 punches in each of those rounds.

    The output was simply gone.

He couldn't pull the trigger. When he did, there was no timing at all.

The 38-year-old Wilder has aged out. It's happened to most of the top heavyweights in history. It happened to him, too.

Good thing for Wilder that, unlike Holmes, Parker can't punch a lick. Wilder walked out totally unmarked. He is happy and filthy rich ... be he has lost all the rage that drove him all these years.

Good for him, as a person. But the fighter clearly is done.

Time for Fury-Usyk and Fury-Joshua to finish up, and then on to the next wave.

I still think Agit Kabayel is the star of "Day of Reckoning"; not Parker. Kabayel caused a major upset (for whom is it an upset).

Of the heavyweights who fought that night I thought these looked the best:
    1. Joshua, took apart a well thought of heavyweight
    2. Sanchez , the guy has some good hands and skill
    3. Kabayel , he showed skill and an ability to finish a strangely quite Makhmudov
    4. Parker, a big win but as Rummy said, he never got out of 1st gear and coasted for much of the fight. Wilder looked awful
    5. Dubois , nice rebound
6.Hrygovic , looked okay against a terribly overmatched opponent.

    Great video.

I realize the promoters and boxers are making lots of money, but for the fans, the Saudi site sucks. There is absolutely NO energy in the crowd. None. Even the Japanese crowds looks like wild Romans at a gladiator show in the Colosseum. I'd much rather watch a bout from a 5,000' arena with a screaming crowd.
