Ak & Barrack, along with Shawn Porter were discussing the merits of the sanctioning bodies and their plastic belts at the Fortuna - Garcia bout. First it was Ak. “Can you think of an all time great, that never held a world title?” Barrack could only reply, “Great fighters, have belts.” Perhaps posters on here, could educate these oracles of the airwaves.
Tough question. The greatest fighters to never hold a world title could easily be HoF, but ATG is a little bit more tricky.
This is why I don't watch DAZN's boxing content. I know a lot of knowledgeable people in this sport and I had never heard of AK and Barrack before they got shows on DAZN. I'm not saying that they aren't good at their jobs, but this question highlights their ignorance of history. Sam Langford, arguably the greatest fighter of all-time, did not win a championship. Neither did Packey McFarland who is clearly an ATG himself. What about Jeanette, McVay, and Tommy and Mike Gibbons? It's true that most greats will have won belts, especially as the market became saturated with them, but there are clear exceptions.
Well, Langford, Burley, Peter Jackson, Wills, Jeanette, for starters, are all widely regarded as ATG’s. None of these held a version of the world title, unless in some cases, a “colour” one.
