Seriously Eddie Hearn was saying it will create a storm when we find out who is on DAZN commentary team etc. Obviously he means Sugar Ray Leonard and if he’s watched The Contender series he’ll see he’s as dull as dishwater and has that vacant 100 Yard sociopathic state and monotone voice like Oscar. Pretending they are excited and waiting for an advert break for a line of coke no doubt. Also announced some guys from Sirius radio doing fight week interviews (On DAZN USA twitter feed). All a big yawn. No innovation, no imagination. Rich, corporate and predictable. It all strikes me as Ed Woodward, Man Utd CEO saying “we can do thin thing’s in transfer market no one else can dream about .” Then he he re-signs Fellaini, an unknown Brazilian from Ukraine and a 19 year old kid who’s played 6 times. UH HUH ... SIGN MIKEY GARCIA DUDE
Anything is better than the bang average UK commentators. Let's hope they have these guys commentating for the joint DAZN/Sky shows. If they aren't on sky, we're gonna be left with the pain of Adam Smith still.
Sugar Ray is as bad at commentating as he was good at boxing. He was dog**** on PBC before they canned him. Terrible team. Basically just Brian Kenny, who's no world beater himself.
Meh, I'm reluctant to sh1t on this too much but I was really hoping for either Malignaggi or Al Bernstein or both. People are right saying this bunch are a bit corporate/stale. Swing and a miss for Dazn IMO considering the self-hype.
I find the broadcast team and presentation solid. I've always liked Kenny, Sergio Mora's pretty good and growing on me, Grisham's tolerable. I actually really like both Chris Mannix and Kay Adams. Kay's a good communicator, does well bringing out perspectives out of Chris to setup fights, she's both professional and fun. She does her boxing homework it seems, though I wish she genuinely knew boxing as much as she knows NFL. I like Ak and Barak. They're real fight fans, and try to ask interview questions and engage in conversations we as fans would. Overall I like that the DAZN presentation doesn't pander down to viewers as much as HBO, Sky, ESPN, Showtime. Sugar Ray, yeah he brings nothing to the commentary. With HBO gone I'd love it if RJJ replaced him. That Liz Granderson guy is the weak link, he's so cheesy and pointless. We don't care about human interest stories between rounds, and if we have to hear them we don't need a dedicated "ringside reporter" to provide them. Just a role for a function that doesn't exist. He sounds like he's reading a script and has no interest in boxing too. I like Brian Campbell on the Sky cards, don't like Ray Flores. Is the broadcast team we've had for the Matchroom USA cards only doing Matchroom shows? Will Golden Boy shows have their commentating team? The press release for the Golden Boy/Canelo deal said Golden Boy's producing their own shows so I assume that means commentary. Hope they come up with better than what they had for the Facebook Linares fight.
****ing dreadful, by far the worse thing about DAZN is the commentary. Whether it's Kenny, Mora or Leonard they all suck serious ass.
I don't give them a fail, because I don't find any of them as grating as the low bars of Lampley, Ranallo, Atlas, Kriegel, Adam Smith. Leonard doesn't add any deep insight, but he doesn't get on your ears like they do.
