    Indeed.

He was down on points early (and I still had Pov up at the time of the stoppage), but AJ closed the door emphatically.

Tonight, Anthony Joshua fought --and legitimately stopped-- a "rejuvenated KO threat" version of Povetkin without excessive holding or draping his body weight all over him.

This is a very good statement win for AJ.

    Jesus.....

What are you going to claim next?

The fight was stopped because Joshua was fading?
Povetkin hurt Joshua more than Ortiz hurt Wilder?

No read it again, that was my predication and it was spot on. The only suprise is that the ref didn't interfere

A 40 year old giving up a 7 inch reach who is fighting pedless, didn't stand a chance. At best he had a punchers chance, but it was a 70/30 fight.

    But, with 'context' again....

    Klitschko+Povetkin > Briedis+Gassiev.

Yes you're right he was clearly a level above Parker. I was disappointed in AJ's early round performance but credit has to go to his opponent. Be interesting to watch again to see just how he was putting AJ off his game.

    Good exciting fight.

I had Povetkin ahead and was getting worried but it seemed Joshua was willingly giving up rounds until he found he timing to let lose on Povetkin.. Once he caught Povetkin it was all over. Pretty good performance but impressive knockout.
If he gets Wilder stunned like Ortiz he'll finish him off for sure , but he can't afford to take any shots while he figures out his rhythm like he did with Povetkin. 50/50 fight if it ever happens any time soon.

You said the stoppage was premature.....

Team Povetkin was on the ropes trying to call it off.

It was WWE stuff, i thought the guy was going to dive off the top rope.

Go away, stop mentioning my name and stop quoting my posts.

You have no credibility and your opinion or whatever you want to call what you post, isn't worth a jot. You're simply an annoyance.

I don't know why the mods don't just get rid you of for good.

You sound a little upset. I gather you were wanting Povetkin to win. Do you think that may have affected how you were scoring the fight? The AJ hater brigade were out in force. One of them had Povetkin 4-0 after 3 rounds.

It was Pov's footwork from what I saw.

Joshua struggled when he was rushed.

Nope. Sorry. Doesn't undermine AJ to say that both Whyte and Parker, who IMO have a better defence than AJ, beat Pov handily.

Until Povetkin has his hand raised in a fight against either Whyte or Parker I won't be doing any blowing.

It might be your opinion that Pov was winning (it wasn't mine or the judges) but that doesn't amount to a damn bean! Turn it in, Pov is done and that was/is obvious to people who KSAB.

There's a reason why AJ had so much trouble with a 41 year old Wlad and a 39 year old Povetkin

And there's a reason why Donkey had so much trouble with a 48 year old Ortiz

Because unlike almost all of the top HWs in this era of giants who took up the sport late after transitioning from other sports they actually have skills, ring craft, experience and they know box, great technique, to set things up, to punish someone quickly for the mistakes they make and to expose their gaping flaws even though they are years past their prime and at massive physical disadvantages. It's not rocket science.

You make little sense. AJ was rocked? Sasha however was fine to continue and it was a Brit stoppage? Check the label on whatever you're drinking, I think your beer got swapped out for white spirits.
