DAZNs maximum budget is 16 million per show (split between all the fighters)

Canelo makes 50 million per fight at the moment.

Only a PPV platform can pay Canelo. Which means Showtime, or possibly ESPN?

Yes he doesn't fit their model and they won't try to get him. Canelo should go to showtime or alternatively and preferably apologise to GGG for the cheating and the biased judges scorecards, pay him millions of dollars and announce his immediate retirement.

To be fair, DAZN can do a PPV as well. You don't need network backing for PPVs.

I don't think they would after they said their whole model is against PPV because PPV takes it away from the fans etc. etc.

True. But then again, it's Canelo.

DAZN might see fit to invest in Canelo and offer him a flat fee deal. You never know.

In all honesty, it comes down to their subscription projections and expectations. If they are happy with the current numbers than why not invest in Canelo? He is sure to open up a huge market.
If they offer Canelo the same deal SHO offered Floyd, it would have to bring them a little over 600k monthly subscribers.
That doesn't seem like too big of a number. Heck, looking at Canelo's PPV numbers it seems rather doable.

Maybe they would look once their platform was established but really it directly contravenes their operating model

Yeah, I think he will go showtime too. I think they have a better shout at getting GGG

The perform group who own DAZN have an owner worth $20bn.

If he wants Canelo I'm pretty sure they will come up with the money

I'm still not big on online only platforms. The biggest sporting events (Super Bowl, World Series, World cup soccer, Wimbledon, etc.) all have some TV presence. Online is nice, but as a supplement. For example, online sports can't be viewed in Bars. There has to be some traditional TV option, or it is just going to be a second tier operation. Very rough analogy: I grew up in the NY/NJ area, and there is a regional fast food company called Roy Rogers. In my opinion they are better than Burger King, etc., but outside of a few states, they are unheard of. To have the brand identity of MCD/BK, etc., they need to be everywhere. Anyone in any country on Earth, Knows what Mcdonalds/BK are, but other than maybe 5 states in the US, nobody Knows what RR is. I live in North Dakota now, and nobody has ever heard of them.
There will be some niche subscribers yes, but to expand THE SPORT, and get casual fans, they need to be on regular TV, even if it's SHOWTIME.

I don't know, I think it's between ESPN or DAZN Al Haymon owning Showtime is the issue, can't see De La Hoya being willing to bring any of his current fighters/stars anywhere near Haymon again. Both ESPN & DAZN have the money and I can see them willing to spend it on Canelo.

I'm unsubscribing from DAZN if they sign Canelo and try to make us pay additional fees to watch him fight. Same goes with Joshua. If you want me to pay monthly don't add any extra bull**** on top of it.
