Joseph Adorno vs. Wesley Rivers, 8 rounds @ light welterweight

 

In the bout directly preceding this one, local Mike "Bethlehem Brawler" Liberto returned from a decade of absence (made his pro boxing debut in 2015 and hasn't fought since) by demolishing longtime multi-sport cross-state rival Adam A. "Archangel" Atiyeh of Allentown in a KO1 blitz. Liberto improves to 2-0 and Atiyeh falls to 2-1.

The pair of 40-somethings apparently have fought thrice already in pro MMA, with Liberto going 3-0 - prompting the commentator to hilariously suggest that Atiyeh maybe challenge Liberto to a game of tennis or something.

 

TKO3 for Joe "Blessed Hands" Adorno, but Paulie Malignaggi has a lot of criticism for his inconsistency - saying he was even inconsistent within this fight while it lasted. I think he and Claudia Trejo might have given Rivers the first round.

 

Paulie says claiming to be a counter puncher is no excuse for tepid volume, opining that at lower levels in mismatches you have to find a way to push for the stoppage (but admits that he isn't speaking from experience, having not been a career puncher )

 

Bryce Steven Mills vs. Alexander Otha Martin, 8 rounds @ welterweight

 

Mills only has six stoppages (17-1 record) and Martin has only been halted once - but the latter has been down a slew of times over his career and his already imperfect chin might have been recently ruined by Óscar Duarte, as he was dropped late his next time out by a shot Pedro Campa. Plus, the Syracuse native is a smothering pressure fighter and twelve years younger than the Chicagoan southpaw.

I'm thinking this doesn't go eight.

10-9 Mills, closer - Martin with stretches of slick movement and pot shotting, but getting bombarded downstairs when distance is closed.

Bryce making it a brawl, which works in his favor.

 

40-36, pressure increasing just a tad.

 

Clean sweep through five.

Mills stepping in and landing two-pieces in rhythm, walking Martin down and relentlessly flicking jabs up into his face and occasionally surprising him with a slingshot lead right. Martin being evasive, hands low, feinting, clinching when Mills comes in.
