Holy Dorgbetor vs. Muhamet Qamili, 6 rounds @ featherweight

 

Round 1

Dorgbetor aggressive to start, keeping a jab in Qamili's face, alternating the speed and power on it to keep him guessing. Dorgbetor hooking off the jab and peppering in right crosses. Qamili trying to duck and/or swerve sideways as he lunges in with straight combos but still getting hit and not landing much. Qamili has a cut by his left eye. They pause to examine it. Time in. Qamili taking jabs on the body, and then a right on the jaw at the bell.

Round 2

Dorgbetor is backed into a corner but landing counter left hook and straight right combos on the head of the oncoming Qamili. Desperate overhand lefts by the Albanian southpaw, just wailing down on Dorgbetor and crashing through his guard. Qamili using his forearms and shoulder to press Dorgbetor againts the ropes or turnbuckle and then flurrying down the middle to get the guard fixed in place before winding up with looping & overhanded lefts.

10-9 Qamili, good turnaround, especially with that nasty cut (which was from a headbutt per slow motion replay)

Round 3

Dorgbetor starting to work in right hooks at close-mid range and Dorgbetor spits his gum shield after taking one flush. Ref docks a point straight out - no warning! Dorgbetor is throwing 1-2s from against the ropes while Qamili submarines his way in, upper half of his body parallel with the floor and then surfacing with an overhand left. Qamili pressuring and hooking around the guard with both hands when Dorgbetor is throwing straights. Qamili eating shots on the way in but able to get his arms in the way of more, his own shots becoming effective whether or not they land as chaff grenades to disperse Dorgbetor's.

Round 4

Dorgbetor is getting driven into the ropes again, Qamili burrowing low and pumping short uppercuts into the body. Dorgbetor able to drill into the cheek of Qamili with clean straight right counters when he sets his feet but they're not slowing him down. Dorgbetor dropping his arms on the backfoot and getting herded time and again into the perimeter. Qamili flurrying nonstop with taps on the body and heavy roundhouse shots up top. Dorgbetor spits out his gum shield repeatedly but so far not docked another point for it. Commentators surmise that it might be ill-fitting and the corner should replace it with a smaller one (if they have one). Qamili winging multiple left hands in a row, from his rear hip up to Dorgbetor's head in a catapult motion. Dorgbetor able to jab and step into a reversal with Qamili now in the corner, but the clock runs out before he can capitalize on the position.

WBC open scoring has Qamili up on all three judges' cards.

Isaac Dogboe's protégé officially needs a KO.

If they stop it on the cut, even though it was never ruled as being not from a punch by the referee, the WBC utilizes instant replay and modified scoring (to avoid technical draws) so this would become a Qamili victory.

 

Round 5

Dorgbetor is countering on his toes now while backpedaling, scoring jabs and crosses on the face but only lightly. Qamili rushing in, banging down with the left hand gavel and smacking wide telegraphed right hooks into the body and lower jaw of Dorgbetor. Repeatedly the action winds up on the ropes with Dorgbetor trying in vain to counter his way free and Qamili too low to the ground and slippery to even be clinched as he maintains his constant flurrying. Ref came VERY close this round to deducting another point from Dorgbetor for what seemed an international mouthpiece spit.

Round 6

Dorgbetor is getting bullied around, hit with overhand rights as Qamili has now switched orthodox. Dorgbetor can't even get a shot off as his long arms get snatched in midair and trapped under Qamili's armpit while he dogwalks him across the ring. Qamili finishing strong, perhaps doing even better than he did as southpaw in the previous few rounds, mauling and picking off Dorgbetor's weak counter attempts on his wrists.

The victory award is presented to Qamili - whom the ring emcee dubbed "The Machine" (previously I've seen him self-refer with the nickname "Robot", eh close enough ) - by super middleweight contender Ivan Zucco, a fellow lefty and fellow resident of Italy.

 

It's funny - I predicted and was hoping for a close match, and during the 1st round thought disappointedly "Oh. Nope, it's a mismatch (for the Ghanaian...especially with that horrific cut developing so early)". The next five rounds proved to be a complete mismatch in the other direction.

Dorgbetor is the more conventional technically sound boxer, but that doesn't always translate to a win h2h. Qamili's approach is sloppy but - at least in this instance - very effective.

 

Alija Mešić vs. Keaton Gomes, 6 rounds @ heavyweight

 

Gomes, a Lusophone Afrikaaner (white South African of Portuguese descent) used to campaign at cruiser and bridger and is now in with an enormous super heavy in the Bosnian.
