Opetaia beat an old shot to hell Briedis twice, and both matches ended with Opetaia being beaten from pillar to post by an old shot to hell Briedis and on the verge of stoppage losses. Other than that he's beaten two of the shittiest opponents I've ever seen in Zorro and Thompson. Ramirez just beat the very solid Goulamirian who most thought would beat him, with relative ease, and Joe Smith Jr., who even unproven at the weight is better than goddamned Zorro and Thompson. So keep things in perspective here. Fighting Ramirez is hardly a quack, it's a big money fight in the US. If Jai was smart, he'd be pursuing a match with Ramirez as well, CBS is a relative unknown outside of the UK. KOing Ramirez would be far more impressive to the boxing public.

Briedis was shot to hell? That's news to me. In fact he beat current WBC champ Mikaeljan in that little run he went on after losing to Usyk. I'd argue that it's easier to make a case that Briedis is a top 3 Cruiserweight now, than "shot to hell".

If you think Ramirez is going to bring more money than Opetaia, you're delusional. Ramirez earned $400,000 for Goulamirian (who earned $625,000 as defending champion). CBS is being offered $1M to face Opetaia with another 250k on top. It's not a bigger fight in any way, shape or form.

Briedis was 37 and coming off of a year long layoff and an injury for the first match, and 39 coming off of a 2 year layoff for the rematch. He beat Mikaelian? Clearly you've never watched the match, that was one of the worst robberies of 2018, now... mull that over for a minute... 2018, 6 years ago. Hell... his last truly great win was over Dorticos and that was 4 years ago. Most non-Australian posters from one side of this site to the other agree, Briedis was shot. So apparently it is news... only to you.

If you think fighting in America, headlining your own card, isn't a bigger fight... you're the one that's delusional. Great, the Saudi Mr. Money Bags is tossing out the big bucks again for a match that he really wants to see. Yes, and? How is that meaningful in any way shape or form? In the grand scheme of things.... CBS is a nobody, Opetaia is a nobody and Ramirez is a nobody. Boxing fans are myopic and get caught up in all of this nonsensical drama, but at the end of the day, it's all meaningless. In CBS's mind, fighting in the US holds more appeal. Because well... America is America ( and more important than Saudi or Australia) and is, a sign you've made it and still the be all end all for a lot of foreign boxers.

Briedis was already past his best by the time the first fight took place in 2022. Briedis was already 37 at the time and was barely fighting.
Beat Mann in 2021, a fight in which he didn´t look good in and just brute forced the win.
    Beat Dorticos in 2020.
Mikaeljan fight took place in 2018, so there is no point in bringing it up.

But now in 2024, the now 39 year old Briedis who had not fought in 2 years, still almost stopped Opetaia.
I don´t aim to take anything away from Briedis, but Opetaia should not have struggled so badly in his last fight. The only reason he did is because hes simply not that much better than the rest of the division. There is not a big cap between him, CBS or Ramirez.

Ope looked very poor and unmotivated vs Breidis which means either he was in fact just having a bad night or Breidis fought well and prevented him from scoring points. I can tell you Ope's team was disappointed and clearly down in the dumps the next day so to my mind Ope just had an off night.
