Ultimately it won't take that much to put a house stable together along the lines of UFC, and then it just needs topped up every so often, some kind of training-ground promotion built underneath, etc. I see people on socials going on about the big fights, but boxing needs full cards and Zuffa won't want guest fighters like bin men coming in, the way Frank and Eddie pad out their shows on UK TV. You're clearly better informed @Astro but this sounds like it's going to be a good thing. A global promotion on Netflix with good solid cards and a progressive structure to bring fighters through without the nonsense of attaching themselves to a corrupt "ranking". What's not to like? Nothing to stop big UK promoters carrying on regardless.
Astro knows his onions. I reckon the next 6 months to a year are going to be very interesting in the boxing world. It’s just curious that if nearly all the top boxers have agreements with Zuffa there aren’t more rumours on the boxing channels.
But once Zuffa try and stabilise pay days after initally blowing others out the water, who's to stop the other's from going back to offering the previous pay days?
Yeah, that's what I thought. They'd have to build a seriously strong brand like the UFC and this Zuffa belt will need a very long time to build any kind of prestige and meaning. I wonder if the only way you can really take over boxing is to buy the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO. Once you have all four you can then merge it into one title. I don't see that happening anytime soon, that would probably be to expensive even for the likes of Turki.
I think they bought the ring magazine for the belt that carries its name. Had more credibility than the alphabet versions in many eyes after all?
I think sometimes I subconsciously blend different users into one, I always remember you as working in TV and having good insider knowledge, for some reason I'm also associating you with another user who seemed to know everything about women's boxing and I could have sworn she said she was woman, maybe you became active on here at the same time?. It doesn't help when so many people get banned and come back as alts, I can never keep up with who I'm a talking to any more lol, Like what happened to Trafford who was on here regularly?
Why would anyone do that? They're all a racket charging fees for next to nothing, I'm not sure what anyone would be buying. The only prestige in the WBC is Ali's face on the belt; the majority of casuals wouldn't know which alphabet title is which and as old boy Hearn always says, "95% of the money comes from casuals".
Be careful if you haven’t watched the Navarette fight yet. Immediately to the right of the full replay option, there is a photo of the fight, with the result underneath!!!
