You have to remember that Bellew's game plan would've took Usyk by surprise and like I said he studied Usyk meticulously and has been studying him for many years and he has a very sharp boxing brain and high ring IQ.

Also there's just something different about fighting in front of a large and extremely loud and partisan British crowd than there is to anywhere else in the world. I don't care who you are or how much of a road warrior you are it's intimidating and if your opponent gets off to a good start like Bellew did in front of a home crowd like that momentum starts building in their favour and it's going to have an effect on you and make you tense up a bit. Usyk deserves a lot of credit for being able to make the adjustment and overcome that.

Someone needs to gif the start of Usyk’s ring walk when he stared at the camera, tilted his head and then smirked.

I was genuinely way more nervous for this fight than I was for the Briedis, Gassiev, and Glowacki fights combined and I would confidently back Gassiev and Briedis to spark Bellew out cold.

I think people getting it twisted here, true greats often (nearly always) give away the opening rounds of fights.
For two reasons they have the confidence That their ability will come into play later in the fight, and they have the intelligence to know that figuring out their opponent rather than taking the opening rounds (the hype rounds) will ultimately be more beneficial in securing the fight when it matters, in the championship rounds.
Add to this the fact that the opponent of a truly great fighter also knows that they have to look good in the opening rounds otherwise they look out of place, so end up doing two things, they end up forcing the fight and changing their style, and as the crowd responds to their unexpected (plastic/false) dominance they get hyped and belive they are taking the rounds rather than being given them.
Full respect to both fighters, but I belive this is exactly what happened here.
Take nothing away from bellew he forged a career out of determination, hard work, grit and heart, in many ways it demands as much respect as a career formed/built on talent. Anyone agree? Or am I talking bs?

No one mentions that Bellew has chosen a spoiler style, which, for the first 3 rounds, neutralized Usyk's strengths - mobility, footwork, punch selection. It is truly hard to look impressive against that style, and Usyk should receive more credit for picking up such an uncomfortable opponent. It was a high-risk-low-reward fight.

Usyk defensive action in the fight also is underated - he avoided many of Bellew's counters and when they were exchanging, he actually was getting the better of these exchanges, which eventually lead to the KO.

Thanks for the free entertainment you mugs. All the arm chair, no nothings giving Bellew all those rounds and squaking abnut Usyk being exposed. LOL Amazes me because many of these posters are here for all the big RBR's yet seem to learn nothing from years of watching these fights.

In 2018, Usyk edged Briedis in Latvia in a tremendous fight, schooled Gassiev in Russia, and knocked out Bellew in the UK.

And some people are saying he was exposed or overrated because he took a few rounds (as he usually does) to get started?

Tough crowd, fellas. For my money, tonight just cemented FOTY for him.

:deal: Like I said before. Hence the lack of my obnoxious bragging and hyping. I was confident Usyk would get the win, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I was slightly afraid of Bellew rocking him with something and in comes O'Connor with a patented British stoppage.

Excellent analysis as usual. I tend to agree with a lot of what you say on here.

i partially agree, but the greats dont lose the early rds by taking repeated rights to the face and hooks to the liver.

Lol now we've got the 'overrated' brigade in full flow cos he lost maybe 3 rounds

Tony Bellew earned my respect tonight. He's a better fighter than many think.. This doesn't take away anything from Usyk, he just met a very proud fighter who put everything he had learned over 20 years of boxing to try for one shot at true greatness & was prepared to go out on his shield for it! He works extremely well with his trainer & is a classic example of how hard work, strong will, good strategy & a strong bond with his trainer can overcome some of his limitations!

I predicted it would be competitive & it pretty much went as I thought. A late stoppage.. The cards were a joke! Usyk was clearly in front.. Usyk is special! Just embrace that! He's wiped out a division & just beat the guy who twice schooled arguably the last great or near great CW in Haye.. Shot or not, it is what it is! Usyk walked through Bellew at the end, Haye was beaten like a thai hooker after she had just robbed his wallet!! LOL He needs to grow into HW, not rush & he'll be fine..

 Like I said earlier on in the thread. I had a really bad feeling about this fight and there were many different factors coming together that were concerning me. I just had a strong feeling that Bellew was going to do much better than many felt he would and the confidence he was displaying and the things he was saying , especially knowing how meticulously he'd studied Usyk and how well he is able to break fighters's strengths and weaknesses down (go listen to his analysis when he was doing commentary for Usyk vs Glowacki for Sky Sports it's spot on) was definitely a big one of those factors.

I thought he ment by bringing the unexpected? Any way usyk gave him the distance to show himself, and took it away to impose himself, once he was ready. I thought usyk was overrated before tonight, and now i think i might be wrong, very wrong, he was in cruise control the whole fight. I was impressed not because i rate bellew; it was his control of the distance, truly masterfull.
He didnt tko bellew he broke his heart.
