He had a lot of stuff fall in place for him so it's not really impressive. Mega rich dad with epstein black book level connections. Matchroom is his dad's established business, already making 8-9 figures. He got lucky that sky couldn't be bothered with boxing post Warren and gave him a monopoly. He got a batch of olympians which included AJ.
When Hearn was promoting prize fighter I do not remember one person predicting matchroom would become the #1 promotion in the UK. Hearn just thought bigger than the others. While others were happy to stage events in leisure centres Hearn rightly wanted a TV product that looked better than that. With the long term relationship Warren already had with sky there is no reason why sky couldn't have gone solely exclusive with Warren but he feel asleep at the wheel and underestimated matchroom under Eddie Hearn.
Big disappointment if true. Always been a bit of a hearn defender...think hes done great getting british boxing going again and dont have a massive problem with ppv,s. Only problem was the quality was going down...as time went on. By the by tho....ppv on dazn defeats the purpose for me. The whole point was meant to be pay the subscription and you,ll get good fights. Whats gonna happen now is as time goes on more and more of less quality will start slipping into the ppv bracket similar with what he done with sky sports ppv,s. He was saying earlier...eubank v liam williams would be a standard £20 ppv for sky all day long but that type of fight would qualify under your £7.99 dazn subscription. I m sorry but thats never a £20 ppv fight and it should be a lowish calibre fight for the dazn subscription. Worrying example for me...kind of shows the level hes talking about for the £7.99 subscription. Think his other example was whyte v wallin...a £20 sky ppv but a dazn subscription. Which kind of points to whyte v anyone better than wallin...being on the ppv format of dazn. Your gonna end up paying your 7.99 to see them build fighters to get into the ppv bracket of dazn. Says joshua will always be ppv...but how many times does he need to lose before hes not. The questions out weather he really is a guaranteed ppv since ruiz one for me. Knocked out by an obese guy that wasnt even rated. Then ran away from him in the rematch its hardly edge of your seat stuff only to go in and not really give it his all against usyk. Not totally surprised if your always ppv anyway...no wonder the guys not going all out for the win.
Does prove why anyone with a current current subscription needs to cancel it. Eddie and DAZN are about to screw us boxing fans.
Yes, Chris Eubank Jr. will be in a major fight in December - maybee against Liam Williams, but I also heard Adam Smith saying that there will be no more Boxing PPVs on Sky in 2021.
I've just watched that interview in full on iFL, one of the best Hearn videos they've done. Everybody should watch it to see the state of the rat. Never seen him be so rattled, he was unbelievably sly, constant wee digs at everyone. Contradicted himself constantly too. Hope Re-Matchroom and DAZN goes down in spectacular fashion. He's a horrible ******* and shite for boxing.
Maybe not against williams but the Eubanks will be demanding to be on Sky ppv very soon...that will deserve to be called s proper poking for boxing fans.
EH tries to justify this by the fact that formerly SKY PPV bouts e.g. Chisora Parker would now be regular programming on DAZN and huge fights (AJ USYK) only on DAZN PPV. The glaring issue is most DAZN subs are paying £96 per year for DAZN - same as 4/5 PPVS - on top of any SKY sports subscriptions (how many have cancelled SKY sports just because the boxing was removed?). Now add in 3 DAZN PPVs a year (£75+?) and are we as boxing fans any better off? Probably worse off if you do the maths. Unless we see a drastic improvement in the core Matchroom product (TBD), the switch to a streaming platform instead of the sky model + ppv seems an inconvenience at best and a rip off at worst.
