I assume all that content on the Dazn app about fights and behind the scenes is thought of as part of the good value for making it a £7.99 subscription. Problem is I would probably never watch any of them. If it is a fight night I am excited about I will read this forum and watch a few videos on YouTube. But all that is expected as free anyway now. All that talk about new territories doesn't get me excited at all.. makes me think they will desperately be trying to fill fight nights so will be the odd decent UK card surrounded by fight nights from all over the place. I am happily becoming more casual, I don't care any more about watching cards from Spain or Italy etc, I just want good regular UK cards and the odd big fight I stay up for in the US. Also, you would have thought this price hike would coincide with some big shows being announced to tempt us? I can't even think what they would be at the minute though with the fighters they have and the reliance on Connor Benn now seem even more desperate, he is on everything. Also like someone said they have kind of lucked into a big night in Headingley. Wasn't as if they built up to this Warrington fight, was an unexpected loss and getting Connor Benn on was because of that original farce but it is a decent card. I just paid my £1.99 so would love to see Connor Benn lose but will have to decide whether the £7.99 pay per view for Fowler Smith is worth it. Whilst typing this they said 'game changing' twice on Radio 4. A sign but I am not sure of what.. they just said it again.. hmm, will need to give this more thought about cancelling now.
https://www.sportspromedia.com/opinion/dazn-tv-rights-eleven-sports-italy-germany-uk-data-strategy This article is good in the sense it details how they went about establishing themselves in other regions. It was all about starting with the big domestic Sports rights ie football. I don't know what data DAZN have which suggests that boxing in the UK is the sport they can start with and then grow. The UK market is an outlier compared to the other markets as the epl and CL rights are not up for grabs for a few years so I'm struggling to see what they do until then. It doesn't really make sense and I think they will be trying to buy BT Sport or at least a slice of BT Sport. https://www.business-sale.com/news/business-sale/bt-confirms-plans-to-sell-bt-sport-221482
Sky Sports vs DAZN is 100% a thing. Yes boxing is small for Sky but its big enough for DAZN to get a foothold over here and help them grow into a real competitor.
Tbh I'm surprised sky havnt made a move to up their game with boxing, just to stamp on DAZN. Let's face it, if they'd of made some kind of high profile marketing strategy coupled with some good night's of boxing they'd of probably taken a lot of the light away from DAZN. Kind of like what Eddie did when Frank made Warrington vs Frampton ppv and he then put the Whyte fight on, same night. It took away views from BT and Frank
coming out of this...canello has agreed to fight on a pay per view outside of dazn ...he was one of the reasons i joined as most of his fights were on dazn...once hearn became involved i realised ppv would become the norm for all good fights...sky has top rank now and they will be doing some of the better american shows...ive always had to view this on kindles as my tv lg doesnt allow me to put the channel on ...most of the shows are late night early morning...so it would mean me paying ppv on sky and pay this as well...as im 73 and a pensioner just cant afford all this money
I can afford the subscription amount and I like watching boxing so I will be happy to pay the new price. If you don’t see value, simply cancel. I don’t see why it’s become a big deal to be fair, I don’t think IMBD forums are full of people arguing whether Amazon Prime or Netflix offer good value - you either have them or you don’t, simples.
Another subscriber lost. Only £8 but don’t fancy contributing to the Connor Benn pension pot anymore.
They are a not competitor though at the moment as the consumer isn't really got a choice to make. Yes I accept sky would see them as a competitor simply because they have money so going forward could be a threat as well as sky Germany and sky Italy have seen DAZN win football rights. However for the consumers right now there is no reason why anyone would cancel sky sports and replace with DAZN unless that person only cared about matchroom boxing and didn't like any other sport.
The wrong question was asked - people need to know if Joshua and Whyte fights are included for £7.99. I am out even if they are as not enough shows at £5.99 a pop.
Sky Sports News just had Adam Smith on announcing a new 4 year deal with Boxxer and Top Rank. Definitely talking up their boxing content and 'they have the platform to do it' according to Adam Smith
